*FOOT PROTECTION: All employees shall wear footwear appropriate to their <br /> employment position. Persons assigned to park maintenance, public works maintenance <br /> • and repair shop divisions, and persons engaged in building inspection and engineering <br /> inspection/survey, and all others so designated, shall wear proper work shoes or boots, <br /> which are in good repair, and which offer foot protection suitable and adequate for the <br /> type of work involved. Employees of these divisions may not wear canvas shoes, <br /> sneakers, sandals, thongs or similar type footwear on the job. <br /> All persons engaged in operations where there is reasonable likelihood of encountering <br /> foot hazards shall wear approved foot protection while engaged in such operations. <br /> Approved foot protection is required for all persons working in shop, maintenance or field <br /> operations. <br /> Some examples where foot protection is required are: <br /> 1. (Hard toe) Operating tampers and pavement breakers hand loading of <br /> heavy materials such as concrete blocks, logs, etc., hand operated power <br /> mowers, welding/fabrication of heavy metal objects. <br /> 2. (Puncture resistant sole) Most construction sites,field inspection sites, most <br /> survey work, etc. <br /> • Housekeeping <br /> A. All aisles, passageways, doorways, sidewalks, stairs and walking surfaces <br /> shall be free from snow and ice, refuse, slippery and wet substances, <br /> misplaced equipment and tripping hazards. <br /> B. Floors shall be kept clean. An absorbent shall be applied immediately to <br /> oil, grease and flammable accumulations and shall be cleaned as soon as <br /> possible. <br /> C. Washrooms, locker rooms, lunch rooms and toilet facilities shall be kept at <br /> a high level of cleanliness. <br /> D. All wastes shall be disposed of in proper receptacles. <br /> E. A general clean-up will be conducted at least weekly. <br /> F. Tools, supplies and equipment shall be stored in an orderly manner and in <br /> such a way as to minimize danger from fire or collapse. <br /> • CITY OF ST.
