MOTOR VEHICLE OPERATION <br /> GENERAL <br /> Standard: <br /> A. Employees shall not drive a City vehicle unless they possess a valid <br /> Minnesota Drivers License as designated for that vehicle by state law. <br /> B. All accidents and injuries must be reported to the supervisor in charge <br /> immediately. See reporting procedures. <br /> C. Drivers must comply with all applicable motor vehicle laws and regulations. <br /> They must drive according to conditions, increasing caution and decreasing <br /> speed as necessary. <br /> D. Drivers shall be alert, careful and courteous toward pedestrians and other <br /> drivers. <br /> E. Safety devices and equipment shall be properly utilized (e.g., seat belts <br /> must be worn by all occupants of the vehicle in accordance with state law. <br /> F. Vehicles left unattended must be properly secured against theft, <br /> unauthorized use and accidental movement (for example, motor off, <br /> power take-off equipment inoperable, power bucket and shovels <br /> "grounded'). <br /> G. When refueling vehicles, the engine must be off and no lit smoking material <br /> can be within 50 feet of the refueling area. All employees refueling <br /> municipal vehicles must know where the fire extinguishers are stored and <br /> how to use them. <br /> • H. Motor vehicles or accessory equipment shall not knowingly be operated <br /> with dangerous defects. If problems cannot be immediately corrected, <br /> notify the supervisor. The supervisor shall then take prompt corrective <br /> action. <br /> I. No employee shall operate a vehicle or other equipment unless properly <br /> trained and qualified in its operation. Supervisors shall be responsible for <br /> arranging proper instruction. <br /> J. Vehicles or equipment shall not be used unsafely in a manner for which <br /> they were not designed, or extended beyond their safe capacity. <br /> K. Employees shall not engage in unsafe conduct which may result in injury <br /> to personnel or damage to property. <br /> L. Vehicles shall be maintained in operable condition according to vehicle <br /> maintenance manuals and OSHA and D.O.T. regulations. <br /> M. Employees shall be responsible for daily visual inspection of lights, brakes, <br /> horns, turn signals and tires. <br /> N. All slow moving and emergency vehicles shall use safety flashers and <br /> slow moving signs when operating on public streets and when <br /> appropriate. <br /> 0.
