OPERATION OF INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINES INDOORS <br /> Standard: <br /> In order to avoid the build-up indoors of toxic or irritating fumes, it is necessary to <br /> limit the operation of unvented internal combustion engines within Municipal <br /> buildings. <br /> A. Such engines may be operated indoors only as required to complete <br /> necessary maneuvers or to enter or leave the building. <br /> B. Vehicles with air brake systems may be idled after starting only as long as <br /> necessary to develop operating pressure. <br /> C. When, for any reason, an engine must be run for an extended period (in <br /> excess of 2 minutes), exhaust fumes must be adequately vented. <br /> D. Employees should avoid all unnecessary operation of motor vehicles inside <br /> buildings. <br /> E. Bay door will be opened pfigr to starting diesel engines. <br /> Scope: <br /> This standard applies to all City operations. <br /> Definition and limitations: <br /> The intent of this standard is to limit the exposure of employees to toxic or irritating <br /> fumes. Provisions of a specific nature may be waived in individual instances by <br /> safety staff if the above intent is effectively met. <br /> CITY OF ST.
