Chairman Pro-tem Englund announced that this was the time and the <br /> place to hold a public hearing on request of Malcolm Glad to consider a change <br /> in zoning from R-1 residential, one family, to R-2, two family homes. <br /> Mr. Spano, Public Relations man, with Apache Corporation stated that a con- <br /> sultant was contacted to make a study as to the best use of the strip of <br /> land along the northern portion of Apache property fronting on Silver Lane. <br /> The study indicated that the best use of the land would be with high rise <br /> apartments. <br /> Mr. Glad made some comments on the quality of double bungalows he would build <br /> and also the price range of 40.000 to 45,000 with a rental of 225.00 to 250.00 <br /> per month would bring desirable tenants. <br /> Joe Rosinek of 2609 Silver Lane stated that in the meetings that the residents <br /> along Silver Lane have had they would like to keep the area as zoned A-1 . <br /> Arthur Downing of 4029 Silver Lake Terrace referred to the strip of land as <br /> a forgotten area with no maintenance whatsoever. <br /> George Walquist of 2409 Silver Lane asked Mr. Spano just what are the plans <br /> of Apache in expanding the area with more commercial enterprises. He stated <br /> that they are working with several prospects for new types of business, but <br /> that they have not as yet signed any new tenants. <br /> • Peggy Allguire of 2916 Silver Lake Court was very much against double bungalows <br /> as they are not taken care of as they should be. <br /> L. F. Heuer asked Mr. Glad if he would post a bond to guarantee completion of <br /> the whole strip if he did start the project. Mr. Glad assured him that he <br /> would post such a bond. <br /> Mr. Burns, /apache Real Estate division, presented a sketch of the area showing <br /> High rise apartments along the strip which the Apache Corporation intends to <br /> pursue. <br /> Chairman Pro tem Englund announced that the hearing was closed. <br /> Upon motion by Howitz seconded by Miedtke to recommend to the Council that the <br /> rezoning be denied. <br /> Motion Carried. <br /> Louis Howitz took the chair at 9:45 P.M. and opened the hearing on the <br /> rezoning of the property at 3309 Stinson Boulevard. Mr. Howitz related some <br /> of the past history of this property and stated that it had been the feeling <br /> of the board members that it should have an R-2 zoning. Mrs. Amerman presented <br /> a petition with 19 names of people in the area that had no objection to the <br /> Commercial zoning. After discussion with Mrs. Amerman and hearing her desire <br /> to be allowed to continue her Business School and Decorating Studio, the Board <br /> • informed her that they would recommend to the Council that she he allowed to <br /> continue. Upon motion by Mesenbring, seconded by Englund, recommend to the <br /> Council that the property be rezoned from Commercial to 2-2 with the stipul- <br /> ation that it can continue as a nonconforming use provided for in Ordinance <br /> No. 66, Section 8, Subdivision 7. <br /> \Motion Carried. <br />
