Memorial Signs. Memorial signs or tablets, or names of buildings and date of <br /> erection when cut into a masonry surface or constructed of metal or stone and attached to <br /> the building, not exceeding a sign surface area of 4 square feet. <br /> Subd. 5. Identification Signs. One identification sign per residential dwelling unit, <br /> which sign shall not exceed a sign surface area of 4 square feet per surface and shall have <br /> no more than two sign surfaces, and one address sign on the curb in front of each <br /> dwelling unit. <br /> Subd. 6. Freestanding_Signs. Freestanding signs for garage sales or similar events <br /> occurring within the corporate limits of the City, not exceeding 4 square feet in sign <br /> surface area, erected on private property with permission of the land owner, and <br /> displayed for not more than 3 consecutive days. <br /> Subd. 7. Window Signs. Temporary or permanent window signs duly authorized by <br /> zoning and other laws of this City, provided that all such signs on a frontage shall not <br /> have a total sign surface area greater than 50% of the glass area, excluding doors, on such <br /> frontage and provided that a minimum of one-half of the open window space must be <br /> below a horizontal line which is 5 feet above the interior floor of the commercial <br /> establishment. Merchandise displays in windows shall not be considered a part of the sign <br /> area if such display is not intended to be continued for a period of more than 8 weeks. <br /> Subd. 8. On-Site Temporary Subdivision Signs. One on-site temporary sign advertising <br /> a group of lots for sale within a subdivision or group of houses for sale within a housing <br /> project, provided that the total area of such sign shall not exceed 64 square feet with no <br /> single dimension in excess of 16 feet. The display of such sign shall be limited to a 6— <br /> month period. At the expiration of such period, the applicant may request a further <br /> extension of time, otherwise the sign must be removed. <br /> Subd. 9. Temporary Signs, other than Political Signs. Temporary signs, other than <br /> political signs, pertaining to drives or events of civic, philanthropic, educational or <br /> religious organizations, provided permission of the Council must be obtained to erect <br /> such signs upon or over public property and provided further that such signs shall not be <br /> erected or posted for a period of more than 14 days prior to the date of the event and must <br /> be removed within 3 days after the event. If prior permission is not obtained from the <br /> City Manager, the sign shall be removed immediately. <br /> Subd. 10. Temporary_Commercial Signs. Signs which do not have a sign surface area in <br /> excess of 32 square feet and which are erected or displayed for a period of time not to <br /> exceed 30 days in any year. Permission of the City Manager must be obtained to erect <br /> such signs. If prior permission is not obtained from the City Manager, the sign must be <br /> removed immediately. <br /> 5 <br />
