Planning Commission Meeting Minutes <br /> September 19, 2006 <br /> Page 3 <br /> 1 <br /> 2 Commissioner Jenson asked if the overall plan was for the electronic sign to be approximately <br /> 3 the same size. <br /> 4 <br /> 5 Mr. Koenig stated yes, it is retrofit to fit into the same box. <br /> 6 <br /> 7 Commissioner Jenson asked if this is a specific sign size or do the sizes vary. <br /> 8 <br /> 9 Mr. Koenig stated one of the LED price signs on Lexington Avenue is somewhat smaller as three <br /> 10 prices are displayed. <br /> 11 <br /> 12 Mr. Bona stated two comparable signs in the area include one at Herman's Mobil and a station <br /> 13 on 37th and Central, which is significantly larger than the one proposed for his station. <br /> 14 <br /> 15 Chair Stromgren asked if a height limit to eliminate visual clutter would be required. <br /> 16 <br /> 17 Mr. Koenig replied when they originally erected a three-price sign there were some visibility <br /> 18 problems. Assistant City Manager He stated they changed to the two price signs for that reason. <br /> 19 <br /> 20 Chair Stromgren asked Mr. Bona what the heights of the current numbers are. <br /> 21 <br /> 22 Mr. Bona replied they were about 12— 14 inches in height. <br /> 23 <br /> 24 Commissioner Galyon asked if it were a wireless unit. <br /> 25 <br /> 26 Mr. Koenig stated it operated on a radio frequency. <br /> 27 <br /> 28 Commissioner Jensen asked Staff if the applicant submitted a request or is the Commission <br /> 29 advising Staff to make the changes. <br /> 30 <br /> 31 Assistant City Manager Moore-Sykes replied Staff would put together the changes and submit it <br /> 32 to the Planning Commission. She stated readings would occur to come to agreement on the <br /> 33 reading. She stated the process is much like an ordinance change. <br /> 34 <br /> 35 Mr. Koenig stated he read the ordinance and it states something about the changeable copy and is <br /> 36 an LED changeable copy. <br /> 37 <br /> 38 Chair Stromberg replied it refers to electronic signs on public property, such as City or school <br /> 39 property. <br /> 40 <br /> 41 Commissioner Young asked if there had been other applications. <br /> 42 Vice Chair Hanson stated Walgreens wanted an electronic sign. <br /> 43 <br /> 44 Assistant City Manager Moore-Sykes replied Walgreen's request was denied but the TCF bank <br /> 45 was grandfathered in because they put their sign in before it was in the ordinance. <br />
