City Council Regular Meeting Minutes <br />August 22, 2006 <br />Page 4 <br />Mayor Faust stated Council found that multi - family units are not required to recycle and this <br />would need to be addressed. <br />Mayor Faust closed the public hearing at 7:20 p.m. <br />7 Councilmember Horst stated he had discussions with residents who are concerned with the size <br />8 of the containers who asked if they would be forced to have larger containers at their homes. He <br />9 commented this should be discussed further. <br />10 <br />11 Councilmember Stille stated with every meeting Council learns more, such as addressing alleys <br />12 and truck traffic and the lighter trucks that could be used in the alleys. He emphasized there is <br />13 more work to be done and would like to do it right. <br />14 <br />15 Councilmember Gray stated he would like to see it tabled and asked Staff to continue working <br />16 with vendors to try to figure out ways to reduce traffic for garbage pickup. He stated he feels the <br />17 City has an opportunity to do this right. <br />18 <br />19 Mayor Faust suggested Council ask Staff to look at a pilot program for a year and then re- <br />20 address it. He summarized what he heard from Council and recommended someone should make <br />21 a motion to table this to the second meeting in September to give Staff more time to work on <br />22 issues raised. He said it behoove the Council to encourage everyone to recycle, even in the multi <br />23 family units. <br />24 <br />25 Motion by Councilmember Gray, seconded by Councilmember Horst, to table Single Sort <br />26 Recycling decision until the September 26, 2006 meeting. <br />27 <br />28 M_ otion carried unanimously. <br />29 <br />30 Councilmember Horst asked Mr. Gline what is done with the recyclables now and does it <br />31 services the multi- family unit. <br />32 <br />33 Mr. Glein stated there are a total of nine containers to hold their recyclables. <br />34 <br />35 Councilmember Horst asked if they realized the single sort would mean everything could go into <br />36 one container. <br />37 <br />38 Ms. Jennifer Klennert, Waste Management, explained how apartments and multi family units are <br />39 handled. She stated multi family residents would continue to contract for once per week or what <br />40 ever the multi units required. She said both Walters and Waste Management would continue to <br />41 service multi family weekly. <br />42 <br />43 Mayor Faust asked Ms. Klennert if they had contracts with the multi family units. <br />44 <br />45 She replied yes, each hauler had a contract with specific multi family units. <br />
