2016 Annual Report • Fire Department • St. Anthony Village, Minnesota

23 | Page

The Fire Marshal’s office issues campfire permits to ensure fire safety conditions are met and
pollution issues are minimized. Since we increased the permit length to 5 years for homeowners
we only issue a few permits every year. I will be looking at our rules and information to ensure
compliance with current code.
In addition there are several other permits outlined in the state fire code and required by city
code. Fire Alarm, temporary occupancy, hot works, hazardous materials, and Burn permits are
a few of the other permits. Currently we do not issue many of these permits. Most cities
implement some or all of these permits with a fee schedule. We did issue a few temporary
membrane structure permits but did not charge any fees.

INSPECTIONS
Inspections of buildings and facilities are conducted to ensure compliance with state and
national codes and standards. These inspections include general fire prevention inspections and
inspections of specific systems and services. The specific inspections involve fire protection
systems including restaurant hood extinguishing systems, fire alarm systems and fire sprinkler
systems.
All businesses will be inspected every 2 years with the exception of apartment buildings which
are done every year.

Number of 2013 2014 2015 2016
Inspections 88 256 238 173

2013 2014 2015 2016
Total Staff Hours 66 214 171 181
