2015 Annual Report • Police Department • St. Anthony Village, Minnesota

21 | Page

X. Crime Prevention Summary
PREPARED BY SERGEANT JON MANGSETH
Community crime prevention programs attempt to target changes in community infrastructure,
culture, and the physical environment, in order to reduce crime. The crime
prevention approaches we employ include neighborhood watch, MN Night to Unite,
community crime prevention seminars, crime prevention through environmental design,
premise surveys, targeted police patrol efforts, youth activities and volunteer work, with varied
community organizations. These strategies seek to engage our residents, our business
community, faith-based organizations, schools and local government in contributing to the
community’s overall health and well-being. Through our combined efforts, it is our goal to
employ Crime Prevention strategies that reduce the opportunity for crime, help people
understand fear of crime vs. reality of crime, help people get to know who their police officers
are and increase neighborhood livability.

In my capacity as crime prevention coordinator, I am frequently reminded, by community
stakeholders, that our officers are attentive, listen and are approachable. We pride ourselves on
being an approachable police department with engaged and highly motivated officers. The
Crime Prevention unit calls upon the entire Department to assist in fulfilling our mission, as a
service oriented entity. I’d like to pay tribute to the St. Anthony Police Officers, Reserve Officers
and support staff for their hard work in making 2015 a great year.

This report represents an overview of the Crime Prevention activities St. Anthony Officers were
involved in for the 2015 calendar year. The input and support we receive from our community
partners helps us accomplish our mission; to proactively arrest offenders and prevent crime
while working with the community to solve problems and improve the overall quality of life for
all we serve.

Although this document does not cover all of the
events that have transpired, I hope that it gives
everyone a better understanding of the attention
that the Police Department provides to our
community. Here is a list of highlights from the
year 2015:

January, Officer Jeronimo Yanez provided a tour
of the police department to a group of local Cub
Scouts.

February, Chief John Ohl was invited to the St. Anthony High School where he taught a class on
search and seizure to students enrolled in the CSI class.
