2015 Annual Report • Police Department • St. Anthony Village, Minnesota <br /> <br /> <br />23 | Page <br /> <br /> <br />Officer Kiel Rushton spoke to a Girl Scout group, at the SAPD, about police officers role in the <br />community and respecting authority. <br /> <br />April, The St. Anthony Police Department was invited to partner with the St. Anthony High <br />School Student Council for a school assembly on distracted driving. On 04/13/2015 at 1100 a car <br />display was dropped off at the St. Anthony High School. The display was donated, for use, by <br />Minnesotans for Safe Driving. The display <br />depicted a vehicle, driven in a traffic <br />accident, where speed, reckless driving <br />and youth played a role in the death of <br />a young lady and her unborn <br />child. The SAHS student council <br />promoted safe driving by holding a <br />student assembly on Wednesday, <br />April 15th. The topic was youthful <br />drivers and distracted driving. The <br />guest speaker was St. Anthony Police <br />Sgt. Jeff Spiess. He addressed the <br />student assembly on the dangers of <br />texting while driving, along with <br />information regarding seatbelt use, <br />provisional drivers and speed. <br /> <br />Sgt. Jon Mangseth completed a residential premise survey for a homeowner in St. Anthony. <br /> <br />Officer Jonathan Schlingman provided a police department tour to a group of preschool <br />children from Nativity Lutheran Church. <br /> <br />Sgt. Jeff Spiess, Officer Mark Dokken, Officer Jeremy Sroga and Sgt. Jon Mangseth met with the <br />SAHS CSI class at the city hall. Officers taught classes on topics including traffic law, SWAT <br />and its role in police operations, alcohol and <br />drug awareness/recognition, and use of <br />force/defensive tactics. The training <br />encompassed a seven hour block of <br />instruction. <br /> <br />May, Officer Mike Huddle was invited to the <br />Jack and Jill Childcare Center where he met <br />with preschool aged children and spoke to <br />them about police officers in the community. <br />A squad car tour was provided.
