16 XI. In Summary
2014 Annual Report · Fire Department · St. Anthony Village, Minnesota
XI. In SummaryXI. In Summary
2014 was a great year for the department. In December of 2013 we made several interim positions permanent
and in 2014 those people were able to move forward and act upon areas that they felt changes or tweaks needed
to be made. Small changes to programs were implemented in order to see better results in the future. As I stated
earlier, these results needed to be positive as well as sustainable in our daily operations.
Strengthening our fi re prevention program was one area that Fire Marshal Chris Fuller wanted to focus on. Getting
our message out to the schools and developing a better and more consistent curriculum for multiple grades was
the goal. Also, in 2014 we had our largest open house attendance ever with over 500 attendees.
Assistant Chief Jay Olson had been given the task of focusing on our standard
operating procedures and guidelines for the department. These SOP’s\SOG’s are what
our members use to follow and aid them in decision making. Much of what we do
cannot be confi ned to a step by step process but rather more of a framework which is
where the guidelines come into play. This task is something that will be continuing in
the future for some time.
We started with a rookie class of 9 people but we are now at 7. Their focus last year
was completing class and passing the state certifi cation process for Firefi ghter I, II and
EMT. This training wrapped up in January of 2015 with one still in EMT class. In 2015
they will focus on pumping and driving and passing various in-house tests. The goal is
to have their training completed and being sworn-in by the beginning of October. This
training is being headed up by our Training Offi cer Captain Ryan Anttila and Assistant
Training Offi cer Lieutenant Joe Basara.
