2016 Annual Report • Administration • St. Anthony Village, Minnesota

11

MIRROR LAKE WATER QUALITY AND FLOOD REDUCTION
Minnesota Board of Water and Soil (BWSR)
awarded the Rice Creek Watershed District
(RCWD) a $3 million Targeted Watershed
Demonstration Grant to reduce pollutants
into Long Lake in the City of New Brighton. One of the projects chosen to be implemented with
the grant money was the clean-up of Mirror Lake. This project is a partnership with BWSR,
RCWD, City of New Brighton and St. Anthony Village. St. Anthony took on the design,
permitting and construction of the improvements with nearly $1.1 million being contributed by
the RCWD and the City of St. Anthony providing the remainder. Mirror Lake will be excavated
to: remove nutrient rich sediment, provide additional removal of nutrients to incoming
stormwater and to increase the flood storage capacity of the Lake to reduce the occurrence of
downstream flooding. This project is anticipated to be completed in the summer 2017.
