Resolution 18-039; a Resolution to approve a request to keep six (6) female chickens in 2 <br />an R-1 zoning district at 3419 Harding Street NE. 3 <br /> 4 <br />Planner Olivia Dorow-Hovland stated a request from the Applicants was received by staff on 5 <br />March 31, 2018 to keep chickens on their property. They provided a site plan showing the 6 <br />location and dimensions of the proposed enclosure on the property, as well as a written narrative 7 <br />to the City Council. The Applicant stated in the submitted materials that the coop will abut the 8 <br />garage on the east side, near to the rear property line. Staff has reviewed the request and 9 <br />recommends approval of the request. The Applicants are Jenna Legatt and Jake Otremba. 10 <br /> 11 <br />Councilmember Jenson asked if the neighbors have been informed and Ms. Hovland stated that 12 <br />was not included in the request. 13 <br /> 14 <br />Mr. Jake Otremba stated they spoke with their neighbor and there were no issues. 15 <br /> 16 <br />Motion by Councilmember Gray, seconded by Councilmember Jenson, approve Resolution 18-17 <br />039; a Resolution to approve the request to keep six (6) female chickens in an R-1 zoning district 18 <br />at 3419 Harding Street NE. 19 <br /> 20 <br />Motion carried 5-0. 21 <br /> 22 <br />C. Resolution 18-040; a Resolution to approve a request to keep ten (10) female chickens in 23 <br />an R-1 zoning district at 2616 27th Avenue NE. 24 <br /> 25 <br /> 26 <br />Planner Olivia Dorow-Hovland stated staff received an inquiry from the applicants on March 27 <br />27th and subsequently received a presentation and a diagram on April 19, 2018 showing the 28 <br />location and dimensions of the chicken coop in relation to their property. The applicants stated in 29 <br />the materials that the coop will be located along the southern edge (rear property line) of the 30 <br />property, set back 12 feet from the alley. The coop will be a utilization of an existing small shed 31 <br />that is a total of 80 square feet (8’ x 10’). The coop will have an attached, fenced run to the east 32 <br />and the run will be set back 18 feet from the alley and about 35 feet from Wilson Avenue to the 33 <br />east. The Applicants are requesting approval for 10 female chickens. The Applicants are Suzan 34 <br />Cox and Jesse Pikturna. They plan to get 6 chicks this year with the possibility of adding 4 more 35 <br />chicks in the future. Their lot has 1 neighbor to the west and the applicant states that the neighbor 36 <br />is supportive of their request. To the south of the property is the parking lot for Kenzington 37 <br />Condominiums. Staff has reviewed the request and recommends approval. 38 <br /> 39 <br />Ms. Susan Cox stated they are experienced chicken-keepers. They want to have the flexibility of 40 <br />adding 4 additional chicks if necessary. There are neighbors only on one side and the neighbor 41 <br />has no issues with the request. 42 <br /> 43 <br />Councilmember Stille asked how many eggs are produced and if they would be eating all the 44 <br />eggs themselves. Ms. Cox answered approximately one every 26 hours and they will be eating 45 <br />them all. 46 <br />5
