The Honorable Jerry Faust
October 29, 2010
Page 2
There is also the noise factor. We realize kids will make noise outside. If this were a family with
a few kids playing, it would just be a normal family. Eventually, they would grow older and
mature. However, with a daycare, we will have a perpetual supply of ten -year-olds or younger.
We've already discovered on warm days that we cannot have our windows open when the ten (or
more!) kids are out in the yard at least twice a day. That is so sad. We bought this house on a
quiet street, across from a cemetery, to enjoy the natural aspects of the area, not listen to a bunch
of kids. It's like they transplanted a school playground or a park next door.
• The re -sale value of our property is now down and it's not due to the economy. No one would
want to move next to a business and we never wanted a business to move next to us!
• We also want to make sure the owners of this business do not have the place homesteaded since
they are not living there. If your office does not deal with this, please advise the proper
authorities for us to contact.
• We tried to welcome these people when they first bought the property, but they do not seem to
want to associate with the neighbors. One of our other neighbors suggested this might be
because they are just employees. These people are tenants who work on our block but they are
not, and appear not to want to be, part of the neighborhood. They have come in like gangbusters
and taken over the entire area and it appears there is nothing we can do about it. We who have
been here for years should have some sort of rights for protecting the quality of our
neighborhood.
Several years ago, a person a few blocks away needed a variance of a couple of feet on his
property. We were sent a notice in case we wanted to protest this issue, which really didn't affect us.
Yet, a company can start up a business in a residential area with many customers coming and going
and the first we find out about it is when cars start showing up and banging car doors one morning.
Something needs to be done to preserve the type of neighborhood to which we've grown
accustomed.
Mayor Faust, if there is anything you can do to help alleviate this situation, we would be most
grateful. St. Anthony has always been a great place to live and we hope it can be that way again.
Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Lou Ann and Nancy Schmidt
cc: Mr. Mike Morrison, City Manager
