2018 Annual Report • Fire Department • St. Anthony Village, Minnesota

20 | P a g e

Firefighter training can be extremely fun to learn and also has a lot that can be really boring to
learn, but part of being a firefighter doesn’t always get to be fun and games. Each thing that is
learned throughout training has a reason behind it. Most of the training can be used outside of
the fire department with family, friends and anyone else that may need our help.
Each candidate is required to pass all state certifications for firefighter I and II. Each candidate is
required to pass all state and national certifications for EMT. Both of these tests are made up of
a written exam along with multiple skills stations. None of these tests are easy ones to
accomplish.
Once everyone has completed the required training for not only our department level but also
state and national level they move on as a sworn firefighter for the City of St. Anthony. They get
to start working shifts learning day to day operations around the station. Like responding to
emergencies, fire inspections, public education in the schools, CPR training, equipment
maintenance and checks.
The basic fire training is complete for now or until a firefighter finds some specialized skill that
they want to further their training on. Such as hazardous materials, arson investigation, rope
rescue and water rescue, the list is never ending. Like I stated earlier the training never ends
and we strive to further our abilities to further help our community. Every call that we respond
to is different and you never know what you might come across. That is why we train. Our
department is well versed in many different areas of expertise and we take pride in helping out
whatever way possible.
