City Council Regular Meeting Minutes
March 26, 2019
Page 6

1
Councilmember Gray stated he believes the Department does a great job with community 2
engagement. He also appreciates the social media aspect to the Department communication 3
efforts. He reiterated that he feels the Department is doing an outstanding job. 4
5
Councilmember Stille stated he wanted to echo some of Councilmember Gray’s comments. He 6
feels the City must be doing something right when the media reports on the Department’s social 7
media efforts like KARE 11 did with the virtual ride along. He read aloud a portion of the 8
presentation that spoke to how all individuals, including the victim and suspect, were treated 9
with dignity and respect throughout their dealings with the Department. He felt it was important 10
to highlight this point and not simply touch on the statistics. 11
12
Councilmember Jenson stated there was a lot of information in the full report and he noticed all 13
of the officers and leadership team wrote articles about their initiatives. One theme he noticed 14
running through all of the articles was that they are all committed to their job to serve the 15
community. He encouraged anyone who may be watching the meeting to go on-line and read the 16
full report. 17
18
Councilmember Randle stated he wants to comment on things that he feels may be taken for 19
granted, such as being able to sit outside at night in peace and his son being able to walk up and 20
down the street to a friend’s house and be safe. He stated that he knows this is not the case 21
everywhere and expressed his appreciated to the Department. 22
23
Mayor Faust stated the City had the smallest department that went through the collaborative 24
reform, which he thinks speaks highly of the Department. He stated that he doesn’t view 25
turnover as all bad because when officers leave the City, they are bringing the training they 26
received here out to other areas, which he views as a positive. He stated that officers need to be 27
a combination of school teacher, psychologist, and healthcare professional which is amazing and 28
very difficult. He stated that he thinks the body worn cameras have been an asset to the 29
Department. He noted that much is asked of a few and the Department is the few. He thanked 30
the Department from the bottom of his heart as a resident and as the Mayor and thinks that the 31
Department has moved from a good Department, on the road to a great Department, over the last 32
2.5 years. 33
34
C. Resolution 19-027; a Resolution in support of the “Mayor’s Challenge for Water 35
Conservation” 36
37
GreenCorp Member Minette Saulog provided an overview of the 2019 Wyland National Mayor’s 38
Challenge for Water Conservation which is a friendly competition that promotes drought 39
resiliency and protection of water quality. Her presentation included information relating to 40
What is the Wyland Mayor’s Challenge, Why is This Important, Who Can Participate, and How 41
a Water Pledge Can Be Made. It was noted that residents are encouraged to take the pledge 42
between April 1-30, 2019 at www.mywaterpledge.com. She gave a brief explanation on how to 43
pledge and noted that there are three “St. Anthony’s” that show up as an option when searching 44
for your city, and asked that they make sure they select Minnesota. 45
46
16
