Parks Commission Meeting Minutes <br />May 10, 2004 <br />Page 2 <br />1 the tree replacement noting that they would be reviewing the park at the end of May or first week of <br />2 June to determine the trees that would be replaced. He referenced the infield issues noting that the <br />3 Public Works department addressed the issues and it is his understanding the work has been completed. <br />4 Public Works Director Hartman confirmed. He stated that the batting cages are still a problem noting <br />5 that there is still a need to find funding to resolve the erosion problems. He explained that the plan <br />6 would include the installation of a curb to redirect the water, which is an additional cost. He stated that <br />7 the hay bails would be removed, the drinking fountain would be touched up with paint and he is <br />8 following up on the netting. <br />9 <br />10 Chair Jindra asked if these items would be completed in time for the Grand Opening. She also asked if <br />11 there was anything that the Public Works staff could help with. She asked Mr. Koechlien to follow up <br />12 on the open items with Public Works Director Hartman noting that the Commission wants Central Park <br />13 looking its' best for the Grand Opening. Mr. Koechlien reviewed the timeline with the Commission <br />14 stating that he would work together with Public Works Director Hartman to have the park ready for the <br />15 Grand Opening. <br />16 <br />17 Chair Jindra asked if the City is responsible for watering the trees. Mr. Koechlien stated that watering <br />18 of the new trees is still covered under the maintenance contract. He stated that John Hopko is <br />19 responsible for the landscaping and reviewed with the Commission. <br />20 <br />Chair Jindra stated that the hockey boards look nice and the fields generally look good. She expressed <br />22 concerns noting the recent hard rain and asked Public Works Director Hartman to review the fields for <br />23 potential flooding. Public Works Director Hartman stated that the fields appeared to be in good <br />24 condition and reviewed with the Commission. <br />25 <br />26 Mr. Koechlien assured the Commission that it is his hope to have the park ready for the Grand Opening. <br />27 He stated that the biggest concern is the seeding and reviewed the soil conditions and seeding process <br />28 with the Commission. Chair Jindra asked if irrigation would help resolve the erosion issues. Mr. <br />29 Koechlien stated that it would help and assure the Commission that he would stay on top of the seeding. <br />30 <br />31 Chair Jindra referenced the lights and asked who would be responsible for ensuring that the field lights <br />32 are turned off after sports events. Public Works Director Hartman stated that Mr. Zurbey would have to <br />33 coordinate the lighting. Chair Jindra asked Public Works Director Hartman to coordinate with Mr. <br />34 Zurbey. Public Works Director Hartman stated that he would work with Kathy regarding the schedule <br />35 and lighting. <br />36 <br />37 B. Update for Central Park Grand Opening <br />38 <br />39 Chair Jindra reviewed the subcommittee meetings noting that they discussed various items such as <br />40 entertainment and food for the event. She stated that she would be presenting and reviewing the event <br />41 with City Council at their next Regular Council meeting. She asked the Commission if there were any <br />42 items, not identified, that should be included in her presentation to Council. <br />44 Commissioner Hallada stated that the food budget should be included for discussion. Commissioner <br />45 Knudson agreed stating that she had been in touch with both Rainbow Foods and Cub Foods. She stated <br />
