ROLL CALL. <br />5 <br />6 Present: Chair Carol Jindra, Vice Chair Doug Koehntop, Commissioners <br />7 Daniel Ganley, Julie Gebhardt, Colleen Hallada, Jan Jenson, and <br />8 George Wagner. <br />9 <br />10 Absent: Community Services Representative Diane Skrivseth <br />11 <br />12 Also Present: Public Works Director Jay Hai tman; City Staff Representative <br />13 Maurice Anderson; Representative from Sports Boosters George <br />14 Zurbey; Representative from School Board Denise Dunn; and Rich <br />15 Koechlien (URS). <br />16 <br />17 II. APPROVAL May 12, 2003 PARKS COMMISSION MINUTES. <br />18 <br />19 Motion by Vice Chair Koehntop, second by Commissioner Hallada, to approve the May 12, 2003 Parks <br />Commission Meeting Minutes as presented. <br />Ga <br />22 Motion carried unanimously. <br />23 <br />24 III. Central Park Update <br />25 <br />26 Mr. Koechlien reviewed the erosion control measures with the Commission noting that they had two <br />27 different types available to choose from. He stated that one of the plastics is more biodegradable and <br />28 expensive and the other is more affordable and takes more time to breakdown on the fields. He stated <br />29 that the grass grows through the plastic noting that Premier has told him it would take an approximate <br />30 year to biodegrade. <br />31 <br />32 Chair Jindra asked for an update on the fertilization of the fields. Public Works Director Hartman stated <br />33 that the area has been fertilized and that Staff will go back in 28 days to review the growth progress. <br />34 Mr. Koechlien explained that fertilization did not take place until now, as there were issues with <br />35 sprinkler. He further explained that the sprinklers had to fixed in addition to getting the bid together. <br />36 <br />37 Commissioner Hallada asked if fertilizing would be an additional cost. Mr. Koechlien explained that it <br />38 is his understanding that fertilization of the area is part of the turf establishment. He stated that there <br />39 would be some negotiating involved with respect to cost and maintenance. <br />40 <br />41 Commissioner Gebhardt expressed concerns stating that if they were aware that the sandier soil required <br />more fertilizer that it should have been pointed out and planned for ahead of time in the project. She <br />stated that this issue was never brought to the Commission's attention until now.
