Parks Commission Meeting Minutes
July 14, 2003
Page 3
copied the email to Mayor Hodson. His email questioned why the project was not completed and
he raised other issues. He explained the response from the Mayor stated there were several
complaints from residents and park commissioners about his negative attitude. Mr. Zurbey
acknowledges his brashness and if any of the commissioners felt he had a negative attitude, he
will own up to it and apologize. He stated he has asked a lot of hard and unfriendly questions, but
that they needed to be asked. He stated he would like the reply from the Mayor and Mr.
Koechlien be entered into the minutes as an attachment.

Chair Jindra stated Mr. Zurbey talked to her before he emailed the Mayor and commented Mr.
Zurbey had valid points. She noted the letter Public Works Director Hartman received from
Robert LeFleur regarding Central Park. He stated completion of Central Park should be a priority
and should be ready for spring 2004. Chair Jindra hears the same comments from other people at
games and Commissioner Gebhardt hears them from her neighbors often.

Commissioner Gebhardt stated she talked to Mr. LeFleur about his concerns and directed him to
address his concerns to the Mayor. She also commented she has talked to other people and they
are getting tired of shuffling their kids around. She also stated Mr. Zurbey deserves a lot of credit
for his volunteer time.

Chair Jindra stated she did not think the Mayor's response was appropriate and Mr. Zurbey has
put in a lot of time into this, as have the other Commissioners.

No action was necessary.

B. Silver Point Park Update.

Chair Jindra questioned if the basketball court was re -paved. Public Works Director Hartman
stated it was and that the basketball hoops still need to be installed. Chair Jindra asked if the
seeding had been done.

Community Services Representative Diane Skrivseth stated half of it was done today before it
started to rain.

Council Member Sparks questioned if the murky puddles were supposed to be like that. Public
Works Director Hartman stated that was a stormwater retention area and they would hold some
water, but not enough to impact the field.

Chair Jindra questioned the fact the dugouts and the concession stand were not approved by the
Commission. The Commission ended up approving the dugouts because it was too late not to,
but they needed to determine a recommendation about the concession stand.

Vice Chair Koehntop stated everyone should read the comments from Mr. Wong at URS.

Mr. Anderson asked about the liability issue with Veit. Public Works Director Hartman stated the
