Parks Commission Meeting Minutes
June 15, 1999
Page 3
I Wolff stated the construction is back on its original schedule after losing a month due to the
weather. Jindra noted the construction will still be completed by July 7, weather permitting.

Louiselle asked whether the field grade will be acceptable for hockey rink flooding in the winter.
Hartman stated the portable hockey rink system will be installed at the westerly edge of the park
with a grade of no more than 2%.
Wolff asked whether the shelter would be completed by July 7. Hartman stated the shelter is not
part of the contract, and the City has worked with various shelter vendors which can be reviewed
by the Commission.

Jensen asked whether a final plan is available for the Commission's review. Hartman stated he
would contact BRW to have a final plan prepared for the Commission.

Jindra stated that BRW's original drawings depicted a smaller ditch than that which was
constructed. She added the Commission should have been notified, and such lack of
communication is inappropriate. Hartman stated there were no major changes made to the plan.
Wolff stated the Commission as non-professionals need clarification in simple terms.

Jindra stated the Commission had a joint meeting with the City Council on June 1, and the
Council requested that the Commission consider whether such joint meetings are helpful, and
how often they should be held. Kosciolek added in her opinion the meeting was made up of
reports rather than general discussion. She requested the Commission's consideration of this
issue.

Louiselle expressed concern that the Commissioners have recently been expected to commit to
more than 1 meeting a month and an occasional additional meeting. Jindra agreed, stating the
subcommittees have met a lot recently, and the Commission has undertaken some major projects
which have involved a larger time commitment than originally anticipated. Louiselle noted that
community involvement will be difficult to solicit based on these factors.

Koehntop asked whether a Commission designee to the Council meetings is necessary since a
Council liaison had been appointed. Jindra stated the Council liaison could bring issues affecting
the Commission to its meetings for discussion.

Jindra stated the Council had commended the Commission for their efforts and hard work,
adding they indicated the Commission is doing a good job. She requested the Commission be
made aware of any changes to the Council's plans for the work of the Commission. Hartman
stated he relays all the information he has to the Commission.

a I Jindra asked whether the Commission wished to review plans for Central Park in the near future.
z Wolff stated the school will need at least a year of lead time for budgeting, and construction
could not commence until after school was out for the summer.
