Parks Commission Meeting Minutes
December 11, 2000
Page 3
Mr. Hartman asked if the Commission was in favor of renovating the existing shelter or
recreating a shelter. Jindra noted the Commission is looking to renovate the existing shelter and
add a picnic pavilion near the shelter as a free standing structure. She asked that the Commission
be provided with a separate and/or attached picnic area.
Mr. Hartman asked if the picnic area was a needed component. Jindra indicated she felt this was
a necessary component and indicated she felt the free standing pavilion could be attractive for
neighboring residents.
Mr. Druger asked if a rubber flooring would be acceptable within the warming house. Mr.
Hartman indicated this would be a major expense up front, and noted other warming houses
place particle board over the flooring to prevent damage to the surface underneath.
Jindra indicated she would like to see a gas fireplace within the meeting room area to keep the
room inviting.
Jensen asked if the pavilion and concession stand would contain the same design elements. He
indicated he would like to see continuity between the structures. Mr. Druger stated he would
suggest the same color schemes and design elements.
Jindra asked that Mr. Druger have design sketches for the shelter and concession stand before the
Commission at their January 8" meeting. Mr. Druger indicated he would provide this
information back to the Commission as requested. He requested the names and numbers of those
who would be interested in making preliminary comments before the January 811 meeting for
suggestions.
V. DISCUS SILVER POINT PARK SHELTER AND FUNDING AVAILABLE FOR
SHELTER REPLACEMENT.
Mr. Hartman indicated the funding issues were addressed at the last meeting by Todd Hubmer
and indicated he was present to address these issues with the Commission in more detail.
Todd Hubmer indicated funds were available were from the Minnesota Department of Natural
Resources at this time. He suggested the Commissioners not get set on the amount of funding at
this time but instead chose a style of pavilion and seek out the funding after a design has been
created. Mr. Hubmer noted the DNR could be addressed again for additional funding to meet the
needs of a functional structure.
Jindra asked if this structure could be completed by next spring. Mr. Hubmer noted this would
be more realistically be completed in late summer.
'2 Zurbey asked where the shelter would be located within this park. Mr. Hubmer noted the
:s3 placement at this time would be adjacent to the playground structures. He indicated the area has
been marked off.
