Jindra stated that she would continue to
rely on Mr. Hubmer to follow up on the issues and Mr. Hubmer agreed to do so.
In continuation of the letter of April 10, 2000, Mr. Hubmer reviewed the restroom and warming
house facility issues. In this respect, Mr. Hubmer presented a depiction of the proposed fields for
Silver Point Park (which included softball, soccer, and a hockey rink). Such depiction also in -
cluded detailed spots for lighting and parking spaces. Specifically, Mr. Hubmer asked the
Commission several questions in order to determine the type of warming house and restroom
facility desired. One question was the concept of a concession stand. Although the Commission
declined the option of a concession stand, it was determined that most residents would prefer
single -use, separate men's and women's restrooms.
Mr. Hubmer also presented an idea of building the warming house into the side of a hill, and set -
ting up a theme of colors, structure, and configuration that would be contiguous throughout the
City's parks. Various ideas were then discussed regarding the potential materials to be used for
the building, including the roof, to assist in alleviating the potential for vandalism.
Bob Kost, BRW, Inc. was in attendance and offered to work on some concepts for the Commis -
sion and present those ideas at the next Parks Commission meeting on May 8, 2000.
Sports Boosters Representative Zurbey mentioned the possibility of building a warming house
that the walls could be removed in the summer and the warming house could then be used as a
pavilion. The Commission agreed this was an excellent concept and Mr. Kost agreed to provide
some sketches and details about that option. Additionally, Mr. Kost stated that there are many
options of sloping the roof and using different types of materials for roofing that would
discourage climbing on the roof and/or vandalism.
Zurbey mentioned the idea of a storage room located in the warming house facility. Mr. Kost
cautioned the Commission against this concept due to the potential for theft.
