Parks Commission Meeting Minutes
October 7, 2002
Page 2
2 Motion by Commissioner Gebhardt, second by Commissioner Wagner, to approve the September
3 9, 2002 Parks Commission Meeting Minutes as amended.
4
5 Motion carried unanimously.
6
7 IV. AUGIE WONG (BRW) AND BRAD FORBROOK (SEH) — UPDATE ON PROJECTS.
8
9 Chair Jindra invited Mr. Forbrook (SEH) for his update on the projects.
10
11 Mr. Forbrook reported the Central Park project was finally getting started. He noted they were
12 suppose to put up the trusses today, but could not get the trucks in due to the rain, so it would be
13 done on Wednesday with the roof following shortly. With respect to Silver Point Park he
14 understood the inspectors were there to look at it and the decision was made to switch the
15 building and tum it more parallel with the bank in the back. He presented a working drawing to
16 the Commission. He stated the building was turned 90 degrees, so there would be more ball field
17 left. He noted the building would work well this way. He indicated they would add a retaining
18 wall across the back. He stated the contractor was working on this right now to price out the
19 retaining wall. He noted the contracts were processed this week.
21 Mr. Hartman stated when they were out there last winter when the area was staked, they did not
22 have a good idea of where exactly the outfield started and ended, but the way the building was
23 originally positioned, it would have rendered the field useless, and it would not be useable.
24
25 Chair Jindra asked how had that happened. Mr. Forbrook replied with the snow on the ground,
26 they did not realize it would impact the other field.
27
28 Mr. Hartman stated there was no option to have the building the north/south direction because it
29 would take that field out of commission.
30
31 Chair Jindra clarified by turning the building it would not impact the field. Mr. Forbrook replied
32 it would still impact it, but not as much as it would before. He stated by pushing it back, it
33 would be less of an impact.
34
35 Mr. Forbrook stated the retaining wall across the back would be four feet and of similar block as
36 the other wall in the park.
37
38 Chair Jindra asked if the retaining wall was an additional cost. Mr. Forbrook replied it was, but
39 they were removing a sidewalk and the additional stairs, but the wall would cost more than they
40 were taking out. He indicated the wall was going to be 100 feet long and ten feet from the
4' building. He stated there was an overhang on the building of six feet all of the way along and
4._ they kept the wall ten feet away so kids would not attempt to get on the roof.
43
44 Chair Jindra asked if he had a cost estimate on the retaining wall. Mr. Forbrook replied he did
