Parks Commission Meeting Minutes
October 7, 2002
Page 4
the spring, the fields would not be able to be used next year.
3 Vice Chair Koehntop stated they wanted to make sure the grass was well established before they
4 allowed the field to be used or there would be permanent damage to the fields. Mr. Wong replied
5 that was correct. He indicated the fields would need to be mowed a couple of times, it would
6 need to be fertilized, and the grass more established.
7
8 Chair Jindra noted they should face the fact that they would not be able to use the field next
9 summer. Mr. Wong replied instead of having everyday games, they might need to limit it to
10 every other day and no playing soccer on the field. He noted the longer they waited, the better it
11 would be. He noted there was no advantage to rushing it.
12
13 Commissioner Gebhardt asked if they would recommend them not using the fields at all next
14 year. Mr. Kost replied it would be much better to not use the fields at all next year.
15
16 Commissioner Jensen stated they really could not decide if the fields would be used at this time,
17 until they saw what the weather was going to do next year.
18
19 Commissioner Gebhardt replied she realized this, but they also needed to realize that this might
2' be a possibility and they needed to accept it if it happened.
2.
22 Mr. Kest noted that they needed to let everyone know that the fields would not be open for play
23 so the local neighborhood kids would not use the fields.
24
25 Chair Jindra stated there were no signs, construction signs, or barricades up to indicate there was
26 construction and that they should note this. Mr. Kost replied it was important that signs and
27 barriers be put up and the contractor had been instructed to do this.
28
29 Commissioner Hallada left the meeting at 7:31 p.m.
30
31 Mr. Kost stated they also did not want people sledding this winter.
32
33 Mr. Wong stated they were going to put up eight signs.
34
35 Commissioner Jensen noted they needed a sign posted at the parking lot also. Mr. Wong replied
36 they had considered closing the parking lot, but realized it was used as a park and ride, so they
37 could not close the parking lot.
38
39 Mr. Kost noted the entire park should be closed to everyone, including the trails.
40
41 Chair Jindra asked they keep on this and work it out.
4:
43 Vice Chair Koehntop asked if they should plow the service drive. Commissioner Jensen replied
44 this was a fire access and should be plowed.
