Parks Commission Meeting Minutes <br />September 9, 2002 <br />Page 6 <br />1 Mr. Zurbey stated there was a concern with the Maplewood extension. Chair Jindra stated <br />2 Commissioner Hallada volunteered to work on this with Mr. Koechlein to see what could be <br />3 removed and added to the area. Mr. Zurbey asked if Hallada would come back with a <br />4 recommendation. Commissioner Hallada stated she would work with the neighbors to see what <br />5 they would want planted there. <br />7 Mr. Zurbey stated the City of New Brighton has tree sales in the spring and he asked Mr. <br />8 Anderson how big the trees usually are. Mr. Anderson stated they are typically 8 to 10 feet and <br />9 2 feet in diameter bare root and around $25 a tree. Mr. Zurbey stated that they could try to buy <br />10 some of these. <br />11 <br />12 Commissioner Wagner stated he was worried about the grading by the house. It looked like it <br />13 was going to be low. Mr. Koechlein showed a map and stated there was a catch basin in the <br />14 area. <br />15 Chair Jindra stated there was an upcoming issue of the quarterly newsletter and she needed some <br />16 information to include in this. She requested the Commission to come up with some ideas she <br />17 could include such as donating money for park benches. Commissioner Ganley suggested <br />18 incorporating the school district in to claim part of the park for renovation. <br />19 <br />20 V. REPORTS. <br />2 <br />22 A. Community Services. <br />23 Ms. Diane Skrivseth that there would be ice-skating at the Emerald Park rink only so this <br />24 would need to be in the newsletter. She asked whose responsibility would the shelter be. <br />25 She stated the Community Services does the school property and the fields so it will need <br />26 to be determined who is responsible for this. Chair Jindra stated Sand Castle Park would <br />27 have skating available for skating also. Mr. Zurbey stated they would need to stay with <br />28 the commitment that soccer and baseball will share the fields. <br />29 <br />30 B. School Board. <br />31 Rick Dunn stated he was aware of school related issues with the draining in the park and <br />32 trail and the safety of the ball park with the benches being too close to the field and the <br />33 fences. <br />34 <br />35 Chair Jindra stated there was an issue with vehicles using the path to the fields. She <br />36 wanted to know if there was a way they could not allow this. Mr. Dunn stated that it was <br />37 not practical to think vehicles would not use the path and when it is rebuilt to make sure <br />38 it can support vehicles. Vice Chair Koehntop stated the path should be labeled. <br />39 <br />40 C. Snorts Boosters. <br />41 Mr. Zurbey suggested that the slab being put in for the dugout should be thickened and <br />42 that would mean they would not need cross -footings for a dug out. He stated they should <br />4_ look at it now instead of later. Mr. Koechlein stated he did not know if he meant <br />44 thickened edges. Mr. Zurbey asked if there would be a significant price difference for a <br />45 thickened slab. Mr. Zurbey asked if this would be recommended as something that <br />
