• The trail along Maple Drive being moved about 30 feet, at that emergency overflow
would go out to Maple Drive.
The trail next to the Skateboard Park would be moved to the north end of the park to
avoid utility lines.
Wong stated that they would likely be installing wooden steps to lead up to the skating rink.
Commissioner Jenson questioned the durability of wood. Wong and Anderson agreed that
wooden steps last quite a long time.
It was determined that over -coating of the high school service road should be considered due to
its condition
Chair Jindra asked if the project was on schedule for both time and money. Wong indicated that
the seeding was what they were waiting on until August, but that the project is moving along
very well.
Denise Dunn relayed a few comments from Gary Palm, the Athletic Director. She stated that he
was concerned about the standing water at the north end of the visitor's bleachers. Wong stated
that the problem should be relieved of some of the drainage when the project is completed.
Wong added that there would always be some sort of drainage at the location when there is a
heavy rain.
Dunn (via Palm) asked about the status of the lighting for the varsity football field. Wong stated
that they first needed a boring test location of about 35 feet deep. He continued that they would
be looking at a cost of about $42,830 for just the bases of the lights. He stated that another
$63,601 was needed for the lights, and an additional $20,000 for electrical, for a grand total of
about $125,000.
Vice Chair Koehntop stated that he felt that adding the lights was an overuse of the facility,
unfair to the neighboring residents, and not necessary.
Commissioner Jenson stated that he did not feel that it made much sense to debate the issue
today, as they simply do not have the money.
Chair Jindra asked when it was stated that the, Parks Commission denied the Sports Boosters. I1
was determined that the Commission gave the impression to the Sports Boosters that it was late
in the project to be discussing the possibility of up -grading the lighting for the varsity football
field.
Anderson suggested that the Commission formally adopt a motion to take back to the Sports
Boosters.
Commissioner Gebhardt added that the Commission has been discussing the park project for
years, and the issue of the lighting has been discussed and re -discussed. Vice Chair Koehntop
agreed that they needed to lay the issue to rest.
t Anderson suggested that, by setting a real deadline for the Sports Boosters, they would have
something for which to refer back, in the future.
