Wong indicated that they were ahead of schedule at that point, but then they encountered
the environmental problems.
Wong stated that 300 tons of soil was hauled away, as a result of the testing that had been done
on the soil. Wong stated that, at this point, no more excavation is necessary, and that they were
just doing base -grading and utilities. He added that they anticipated being finished with the
utility work by the end of next week.
Commissioner Ganley asked how much base -grading was left. Wong stated that about 25% of
base -grading remained; with the ball -field included it was a total of about 35%. Wong added
that, once they are done with base -grading, and if the weather holds, the process moves quite
quickly.
Wong stated that the good thing about the project is that it is big, but not complicated, with
details concentrated in one area.
Wong indicated that the side hill should be done next week, at which point they would begin to
construct the building.
Chair Jindra asked about the practice football field, and if it was included in the remaining
percentage of base -grading to be done. Wong indicated that the practice field was included in the
35% total.
Chair Jindra asked about drain -tile, and their previous conversation. Wong stated that, prior to
installing the final base, the contractors are aware that they need to have proper drainage.
Commissioner Ganley asked for a schedule completion date for the field. Wong estimated that
the field should be completed by the end of September.
Chair Jindra asked about touring the site next month. It was determined that the Commission
would meet at the site at 6:30 prior to their next meeting of June 10, 2002, for a walking tour.
Commissioner Ganley wondered how possible it was to keep the schedule on track with regard to
seeding. Wong stated that the contractors also want to stay on schedule. Wong reviewed the
details of the seeding process, and the various increments of time that are required for successful
germination.
Commissioner Ganley asked Wong if it would be possible to open any portion of the park ahead
of schedule.
Commissioner Gebhardt stated that they did not want to jeopardize any of the progress on the
park, by opening even a portion of the park earlier than anticipated.
