Parks Commission Meeting Minutes <br />March 8, 2004 <br />Page 3 <br />1 an estimate for paving in that area and provide for the Commission's review. <br />2 <br />3 Mr. Zurbey asked if the City has a group within their department that would do the paving. Public <br />4 Works Director Hartman explained that the City would utilize a contractor for the paving. <br />5 <br />6 Mr. Zurbey asked if they should be working through the school on this. Ms. Dunn asked that they keep <br />7 Troy Urdahl updated. <br />9 Mr. Zurbey clarified that Mr. Koechlien would work with Public Works Director Hartman and put <br />10 together an estimate for their review. Mr. Koechlien confirmed stating that this would also be included <br />11 as a punch list item. <br />12 <br />13 Chair Jindra clarified that once the snow melts, they would have a better idea on when the fields would <br />14 be completed. She asked Mr. Koechlien if he is feeling comfortable with the progress. Mr. Koechlien <br />15 confirmed and assured the Commission that the re -seeding would be addressed in the spring. <br />16 <br />17 Chair Jindra explained that the Parks Commission had originally wanted the hockey area paved noting <br />18 that funding was not available. She stated that it was her understanding that the area was to be seeded <br />19 and asked if this had been completed. Mr. Koechlien stated that it is his understanding that they did <br />20 seed the area. <br />II <br />Mr. Zurbey asked if they have discussed the batting cages with Gary and Troy. He noted also that it is <br />23 his understanding that they have hired someone or spoken with someone regarding the football practice <br />24 fields. He suggested that Mr. Koechlien contact Mr. Urdahl to verify noting that they have been told <br />25 that they cannot use the field until June 15s because of the upgrades. Mr. Koechlien stated that most of <br />26 the work and responsibilities have been handed over to Hopco adding that he would work with them to <br />27 coordinate the work. <br />28 <br />29 Commissioner Young asked why they were making the hockey boards longer. Mr. Koechlien explained <br />30 that presently the boards are 10 -foot on center, which creates too much flexibility and too many <br />31 pinching points. He further explained that this causes a safety hazard. He stated that it would be more <br />32 secure and stabilized by placing a 20 -foot board across three posts and staggering the joints <br />33 <br />34 Commissioner Knutson asked if there would be better access to the park from the parking lot. She <br />35 stated that presently it is quite a distance to walk. Chair Jindra stated that the Parks Commission did ask <br />36 for better access points noting that they were talked out of it by the prior consultant. <br />37 <br />38 Mr. Koechlien clarified that the original decision was based on the thought that they already had two <br />39 stairways and access points to the Park. Chair Jindra noted that comments about park access and the <br />40 walking distance from the parking area to the park, has surfaced a few times recently. She stated that <br />41 most are not able to get into the park without having to walk a distance. <br />42 <br />1 Commissioner Gebhardt asked if the bleachers had been switched. Public Works Director Hartman <br />45 confirmed that the bleachers were swapped out and resolved. <br />
