Parks Commission Meeting Minutes <br />March 8, 2004 <br />Page 4 <br />1 Mr. Koechlien referenced the soccer goals noting that Veit would be delivering two more portable <br />2 soccer goals. He cautioned the Commission noting that the goals are very awkward to move and <br />3 suggested that once soccer season begins, it would be easier not to move the goals too much. <br />4 <br />5 Chair Jindra clarified the soccer schedule with Mr. Zurbey. Mr. Zurbey reviewed the schedule with the <br />6 Commission noting that they have a couple if issues, first is the practice football field and the second is <br />7 the soccer field. He expressed concerns regarding the schedule noting that the football practice fields <br />8 would not be ready for use until June 15`h. He stated that the Boosters discussed the field usage and <br />9 agreed that they want to rotate the fields. He asked Public Works Director Hartman if they have <br />10 equipment to help them move. Public Works Director Hartman stated that they would have to wait to <br />11 see how the equipment is put together. He stated that they want to ensure that the equipment is properly <br />12 installed noting that this would allow them to be able to better determine how they can then be moved. <br />13 <br />14 Chair Jindra referenced the scheduling meeting and asked Mr. Zurbey to review. Mr. Zurbey reviewed <br />15 stating that the group would be meeting again this Wednesday, March 10`h. He indicated that they are <br />16 pretty close on knowing the number of teams adding that Kathy has been spearheading the scheduling <br />17 process. He expressed concerns stating that it would be difficult to complete, as they do not have <br />18 enough fields available. He stated that Kathy would also make sure that the signs are installed to <br />19 identify fields. <br />20 <br />Mr. Zurbey stated that they have to get the one field cut to the 75 -foot bases noting that it is their plan to <br />use the southwest field for soccer. He stated that the hockey boards should be installed as they also have <br />23 games scheduled at Silver Point. Public Works Director Hartman assured Mr. Zurbey that they would <br />24 be installed as soon as everything dries out. <br />25 <br />26 C. Parks Grand Opening — Sub Committee Discussion <br />27 <br />28 Chair Jindra stated that at the last meeting the Commission briefly discussed a subcommittee for the <br />29 Grand Opening celebration. She suggested that the Commission put together a subcommittee to begin <br />30 the planning process for the celebration. She noted that the Commission would be jointly meeting with <br />31 the City Council in April and suggested that they include the celebration as an agenda item. She <br />32 indicated that it has been suggested that they include the grand opening with Village Fest. She stated <br />33 that this would be too late in the year and asked the Commission for feedback. <br />34 <br />35 Commissioner Gebhardt suggested considering late May or early June. She asked if the Commission <br />36 could wait until the April/May timeframe to decide. Chair Jindra suggested that the Commission put <br />37 together ideas to, prior to the next meeting, for discussion. <br />38 <br />39 Council Member Stille explained that from a City Council perspective they would like the Parks <br />40 Commission to determine what they would like to do and provide the Council with suggestions for <br />41 consideration. He stated that the City Council is looking to the Parks Commission for guidance and <br />42 suggestions. <br />Al <br />Chair Jindra suggested that they include school and community youth groups in the process. She noted <br />45 that an article was included in the spring City newsletter indicating that planning for the Grand Opening <br />
