City Council Regular Meeting Minutes <br />July 23, 2019 <br />Page 2 <br />1 <br />2 B. Presentation of Night to Unite. <br />3 <br />4 Police Sergeant Mike Huddle stated the St. Anthony Police Department has participated in Night <br />5 to Unite for 11 years. The intent is for neighborhoods to organize and create Community watch <br />6 groups. There are currently 38 block parties registered. City Council and City Staff visit as many <br />7 block parties as possible. Sergeant Huddle reviewed the supplies provided for each block party. <br />8 <br />9 Mayor Faust noted bags will be provided for residents to use to dispose of prescription drugs. <br />10 <br />11 C. Proclamation for Night to Unite on August 6, 2019. <br />12 <br />13 Councilmember Randle read the proclamation proclaiming the Minnesota Crime Prevention <br />14 Association, AAA of Minnesota, and the St. Anthony Village Police Department are sponsoring <br />15 a statewide crime and drug prevention program on August 6, 2019 called "Night to Unite." This <br />16 will be the 11 th Annual Night to United in Minnesota. <br />17 <br />18 Motion by Councilmember Randle, seconded by Councilmember Stille, to approve the <br />19 Proclamation for Night to Unite on August 6, 2019. <br />20 <br />21 Motion carried 4-0. <br />22 <br />23 D. Police Department Commendation Award to Officer Jim South. <br />24 <br />25 Police Chief Jon Mangseth presented a Commendation Award to Officer Jim South for <br />26 outstanding commitment to increasing community partnerships and inclusion in developing and <br />27 sustaining youth related outreach programs. Officer South is a 13-year veteran of the Police <br />28 Department. Police Chief Mangseth reviewed the programs Officer South has developed and <br />29 presented Officer South with the award. <br />30 <br />31 Officer South stated he is humbled and honored to receive this award and he couldn't do it <br />32 without the support of his family, the City, and the Police Department. <br />33 <br />34 Councilmember Randle stated in 2015 he coached a team that played in the Cops vs. Kids <br />35 Tournament, noting that Officer Scott has a special way with the kids. <br />36 <br />37 Mayor Faust stated this is the 9th year of the Summer Survival Camp and the ability to reach out <br />38 to the youth goes with them their entire lives. He agreed that Officer South is doing a wonderful <br />39 social service. <br />40 <br />41 E. Introduction of Community Service Officer Liz Villanueva. <br />42 <br />43 Police Chief Jon Mangseth introduced Liz Villanueva as the new Community Service Officer to <br />44 the City Council and the community. Chief Mangseth reviewed Officer Villanueva's <br />45 background. <br />46 <br />
