City Council Regular Meeting Minutes <br />August 13, 2019 <br />Page 2 <br /> <br />Mayor Faust stated he was impressed with the comparison of the values in 1954 and the current 1 <br />mission and vision. The school district is benefitting society and the Council appreciates what 2 <br />the district is doing. 3 <br /> 4 <br />Councilmember Jenson stated he agrees with what everyone else has said. He looks forward to 5 <br />the collaboration for the Communication position that is being implemented. 6 <br /> 7 <br />B. Hennepin County Tree Planting Proposal 8 <br /> 9 <br />Hennepin County Environment and Energy Forester Jen Kullgren provided a PowerPoint 10 <br />Hennepin County Tree Planting Proposal. This is a project they are planning to do this fall. Ms. 11 <br />Kullgren described the benefits of planting trees. The program purpose is to improve air quality, 12 <br />reduce impacts from EAB, provide technical assistance, improve tree survival rates, and beautify 13 <br />county roads and facilities. A map of the CSAH 88 proposed tree planting was shown along with 14 <br />a list of the tree species selection. Volunteers will be utilized for tree plantings and is an 15 <br />excellent way to engage residents and get them invested in their local tree canopy. Ms. Kullgren 16 <br />described the Healthy Tree Canopy Grant and noted she has reviewed this with Public Works 17 <br />Staff. 18 <br /> 19 <br />Councilmember Randle asked how St. Anthony got on Hennepin County’s radar and Ms. 20 <br />Kullgren stated they have a lot of trees and researched where trees were needed along County 21 <br />Roads. 22 <br /> 23 <br />Councilmember Stille asked about the Trillium Park plan and what the site plan implications are 24 <br />for the fountain and monuments. Ms. Kullgren stated an internal review and staff reviews the site 25 <br />lines. This is a rough draft and will be revised for each area. A project is being looked at to plant 26 <br />a bee lawn with DOT. 27 <br /> 28 <br />Councilmember Jenson asked about the list of trees proposed to be planted and whether they are 29 <br />compatible with the soil types in those sites. Ms. Kullgren stated they bring in some soil to mix 30 <br />with the existing soil. Councilmember Jenson mentioned St. Anthony is a Tree City. 31 <br /> 32 <br />Councilmember Gray stated this plan is great and especially in front of the shopping center 33 <br />where there are no trees. 34 <br /> 35 <br />Mayor Faust asked about the selection of the tree species. Ms. Kullgren stated they are 36 <br />experimenting on tree species along with the climate shifting. Mayor Faust stated there is 37 <br />excitement on behalf of the Council. 38 <br /> 39 <br />III.
