C ity Manager Casey reviewed the resolution with the Council and indicated that staff 1 <br />recommends approval of the Resolution based on the benefits gained with joining the PERA 2 <br />plan, and that the PERA and SAFRA modeling both project a $3,800 benefit level will maintain 3 <br />the plan at more than 100% funded. 4 <br /> 5 <br />Councilmember Stille asked for elaboration on the benefits of the vesting. City Manager Casey 6 <br />explained the vesting benefits with the Council and indicated by moving the period from ten 7 <br />years to five years it will encourage the firefighter to stay on rather than leave. 8 <br /> 9 <br />Councilmember Jenson stated he attended the meeting at the Fire Department that discussed this 10 <br />plan in detail, and it was quite lengthy but at the end of the meeting it was unanimous that the 11 <br />rank and file approved this plan to go forward with it. 12 <br /> 13 <br />Mayor Faust noted this is only for the paid on-call volunteer Fire Department, not for the full-14 <br />time employees. 15 <br /> 16 <br />Motion by Councilmember Jenson, seconded by Councilmember Gray, to approve Resolution 17 <br />19-073; a Resolution Approving Participation in the Voluntary Statewide Lump-Sum Volunteer 18 <br />Firefighter Retirement Plan. 19 <br /> 20 <br />Motion carried 4-0. 21 <br /> 22 <br />D.
