Resolution 19-09; an Ordinance Amending Multiple Sections of Chapter 111 of the 29 <br />Tobacco Ordinance to Raise the Minimum Age to Purchase to 21. 30 <br /> 31 <br />City Manager Casey reviewed the resolution with the Council and indicated that staff is 32 <br />requesting approval of this Ordinance. 33 <br /> 34 <br />Motion by Councilmember Stille, seconded by Councilmember Jenson, to approve third reading 35 <br />and adopt Ordinance 2019-09; an Ordinance Amending Multiple Sections of Chapter 111 of the 36 <br />Tobacco Ordinance to Raise the Minimum Age to Purchase to 21. 37 <br /> 38 <br />Motion carried 4-0. 39 <br /> 40 <br />Ms. Ann Trench stated she appreciated that the Council took this issue up and has raised the age 41 <br />to 21. She thought it was very important and will help keep a lot of the vaping out of the high 42 <br />schools. She also thought it was a puzzle here. The tobacco sales age deals with access but the 43 <br />flavors also make it very appealing. She thought it would encourage high school students to still 44 <br />go around the age law because it is something that they want. She thought appeal and access are 45 <br />both important to prevent use and addiction and an epidemic. States have made drastic moves 46 <br />11
