Parks and Environmental Commission Regular Meeting Minutes <br />September 9, 2019 <br />Page 6 <br /> <br />the class is to educate local residents about caring for and planting trees. Doing so will create 1 <br />an engaged community and knowledgeable residents for the county and St. Anthony to utilize 2 <br />in forestry related volunteer opportunities. Mr. DeGroy believes St. Anthony is well suited for 3 <br />hosting a class. A partnering community is requested to provide a venue to host the class, 4 <br />outreach for the class and volunteer opportunities to keep the new tree stewards engaged in 5 <br />the future. Mr. DeGoy provided his contact information. The class would be Saturday, 6 <br />October 12 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The planting of the trees would be held on October 26 7 <br />along Highway 88. 8 <br /> 9 <br />Mr. DeGroy stated he will assist with the outreach to advertise the class through pamphlets 10 <br />and postings on NextDoor social media. Student Liaison Carre’ asked if the Green Team 11 <br />from the High School would be interested in participating. The cost for the class is $25 per 12 <br />person. Some Friends of the Parks group members may be interested. 13 <br /> 14 <br />Commissioner Overman asked if there is a chance for sponsorship. Chair Jordahl Redlin 15 <br />suggested this could be done with a push notification. 16 <br /> 17 <br />D. Friends of the Parks Update 18 <br /> 19 <br />Ms. Ashley McCormick provided an update of the Friends of the Parks group. The 20 <br />presentation included Silver Point Park: Demonstration Garden Site including before and 21 <br />current phase photographs, Project Status, Pollinator Garden Design, Pollinator Garden Plant 22 <br />List, Rain Garden Plant List, and Youth Environmental Stewardship Grant. They will start a 23 <br />Facebook group to update the community. They will speak with Mr. Hartmann about water 24 <br />supply. 25 <br /> 26 <br />Chair Jordahl Redlin requested the neighbors are informed about the plantings. Ms. 27 <br />McCormick stated they are preparing information for the neighbors of Silver Point Park. 28 <br /> 29 <br />E. A Year in Review – GreenCorp Program 30 <br /> 31 <br />St. Anthony GreenCorp Member Minette Saulog presented a PowerPoint with her final 32 <br />update. The presentation included Summer Highlights, State Fair Recap, Service Year 33 <br />Overview, and what’s next. Ms. Saulog worked extensively on grant activities. She reviewed 34 <br />the Energy Efficiency Programs and Outreach and the Community Engagement and 35 <br />Involvement. Her shining success was the Organics Recycling. She noted the City is now 36 <br />Solsmart Silver designated. Ms. Saulog reviewed her accomplishments and the lessons she 37 <br />learned. 38 <br /> 39 <br />Chair Jordahl Redlin and the Commission thanked Ms. Saulog for her work. Mr. Gumke 40 <br />stated he was inspired by Minette and he wishes great things for her. Chair Jordahl Redlin 41 <br />thanked Ms. Saulog for her work. 42 <br /> 43 <br />F.
