Parks and Environmental Commission Regular Meeting Minutes <br />March 9, 2020 <br />Page 5 <br /> <br />May 16 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. in the city hall parking lot. There is no limit as to how many 1 <br />can be purchased. 2 <br /> 3 <br />E. ISD #282 Environmental Grant Update 4 <br /> 5 <br />Ms. Lona Doolan reviewed ISD 282 has been awarded a Hennepin County Green Partners 6 <br />Environmental Education grant for the 2019 / 2020 school year. The focus of the grant is to 7 <br />increase environmental awareness and promote student leadership. The expected outcomes 8 <br />are: Climate Crisis workshop for high school students. Middle school LEAP focus on climate 9 <br />change. Climate study probes and monitoring equipment. Environmental projects lead by 10 <br />students and Solar display in Central Park (collaboration with Parks & Environmental 11 <br />Commission). Ms. Doolan summarized the projects and noted she will return to the 12 <br />Commission to review the solar demonstration display. 13 <br /> 14 <br />Commissioner Niemi asked where the display would be placed in Central Park and Ms. 15 <br />Doolan stated in the middle of the pathway between the pavilion and the school. 16 <br /> 17 <br />Chair Bellinger asked if this could be used in other parks and Ms. Doolan stated it would be a 18 <br />good opportunity. 19 <br /> 20 <br />F. Citizens for Sustainability Updates 21 <br /> 22 <br />Ms. Lona Doolan presented a power point update on the Citizens for Sustainability. She 23 <br />reviewed Who We Are, 2019 Highlights & Feedback Collected, CFS Strategic Planning, 2020 24 <br />Priorities, and Upcoming Dates & Events. The 2019 Highlights including Successful 25 <br />Outcomes and Successful Collaborations were reviewed. 26 <br /> 27 <br />Ms. Doolan stated the CFS (Citizens for Sustainability) is in the middle of their strategic 28 <br />planning process. She also reviewed the 2020 Priorities. The upcoming events are as follows: 29 <br /> 30 <br />April 22, 2020 – Earth Day 31 <br />May 9, 2020 – Spring Clean Up Day 32 <br />May 16, 2020 – Backyard Compost Bin Distribution 33 <br /> 34 <br />They meet the first Saturday of each month 9-10:30 a.m. at City Hall. 35 <br /> 36 <br />Ms. Doolan reviewed items that can be done in collaboration with the Parks and 37 <br />Environmental Commission. A resolution to recognize Earth Day was presented for 38 <br />Commission review. 39 <br /> 40 <br />Commissioner Niemi asked if the compost bins can be obtained before May 16.
