The Central Park tile project will begin late October, early November. 2 <br /> 3 <br />Ms. Palmer asked if the permits were received for the concession stand and Mr. Urdahl stated 4 <br />they are still waiting for the permits. 5 <br /> 6 <br />Commissioner Penner asked if soccer using the field would affect the construction. Mr. 7 <br />Urdahl stated there are only a couple soccer games remaining and they could be moved. 8 <br /> 9 <br />C. Citizens for Sustainability Updates. 10 <br /> 11 <br />Ms. Lona Doolan, 3511 Harding Street, reviewed the activities accomplished this summer. 12 <br />She reviewed the grants received for Nativity Lutheran Church and Faith Methodist. The ISD 13 <br />282 Green Partners grant has been extended to August 2021. 14 <br /> 15 <br />Mr. Dan Kunitz. 3305 Skycroft Circle, stated they removed an impervious basketball court 16 <br />and installed a raingarden with pollinator plantings. Photographs were provided for 17 <br />Commission review. They attempted to find a contractor to help with the project. A grant was 18 <br />received from Rice Creek Watershed District to help fund the raingarden. A photograph was 19 <br />shown of the completed project. They enjoy their “new” backyard. 20 <br /> 21 <br />Chair Bellinger stated this looks like a very large project and asked how much time was spent. 22 <br />Mr. Kunitz stated it took 1½ years to plan and complete. The planning was to maximize the 23 <br />grant. The project was completed in 4 days. 24 <br /> 25 <br />Ms. Doolan stated a few of the members looked at Citizen Science in Salo Park. They found 26 <br />an impressive variety of native plantings including milkweed with monarch eggs and instars. 27 <br />The following invasive species need to be addressed – common buckthorn, Queen Anne’s 28 <br />Lace, Canada Thistle and Goldfish in the pond. There are community volunteers to work at 29 <br />collecting litter throughout the Salo Park complex. Community support is requested to help 30 <br />with plastic bags, fliers, and single-use plastic from local businesses scattered throughout the 31 <br />area, personal protection discarded in parking lots and trash collection irregularities. 32 <br /> 33 <br />Ms. Doolan shared information and resources with the community. The online Zero Waste 34 <br />Challenge is a 4-week online challenge from September 14 – October 11. 35 <br />www.hennepin.us/zerowastechallenge .
