Consider how to preserve privacy for residents from users of a pedestrian
walking bridge.
How does trail construction interface with county construction of
roundabout/intersection improvements? There is no awareness of county
intersection CIP improvement allocations, there is no current stated timeline.
MPRB would prefer to work with the roundabout/intersection improvement at the
same time, trying to sequence things for overall safety.
More Commissioners expressed support for a potential pedestrian bridge over St.
Anthony Blvd and 88. It would improve pedestrian safety and possibly encourage
more usage.
Some other GRML sections may be underway as soon as 2026 or 2028 in the
other (non-SAV) segments. MPRB is not opposed to doing different phases of the
SAV sections if politics becomes an issue, i.e. completing section by the golf
course before the section along residential area.
Consider the option that MPRB could apply for a regional solicitation grant with
the city.
Roundabouts are nice and safe, but rush hour traffic is a steady flow through
those intersections. Could roundabout design delay people being able to cross
through a gap in traffic? Would it be difficult for the less-busy direction of traffic
flow during rush hour to get into the roundabout?
Roundabout concept sounds good but trying to incorporate the trail and bike/ped
features would be difficult.
How to handle situation if GRML work is done first before county
improvements/roundabout? That would create unsafe conditions for bicycles
using the trail and needing to get through the intersections.
Building out portion of GRML through Industrial Blvd. Is this worth it? – Industrial
Blvd is a large workforce center and would improve access to people wanting to
bike to their workplaces in this area. Grand Rounds and trails are not just for
leisure use.
Industrial Blvd ideas will be shared publicly in about a month and will gather
input.
Mayor Webster has spoken to many SAV residents that commute using bikes,
and they know their routes so well that they can tell her where they connect.
Often the roads that are the worst for them is at the start/end of their ride to get
through SAV roads and improves as they reach better infrastructure in
Minneapolis or elsewhere.
A resident (unidentified) attended to make a comment about bicycle infrastructure
in the city. He works in downtown Minneapolis and sees a lack of bicycle
infrastructure in SAV but notices an increase of it as he gets further out of the
6
