Andrew Caddock, Minneapolis Park & Recreation
Board , presenting.
Mr. Andrew Caddock, Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board, appeared before the City Council
and presented an update on the progress of trail improvements for Ridgway Parkway. He
provided background for the project and stated the proposed improvements are part of the master
planning of the Grand Rounds system. He reviewed the project process to date and thanked City
Engineer Hubmer and Director of Public Works Hartman for their assistance on the project. He
advised they are now engaged in Preliminary Engineering that includes minimizing impacts to
trees , adhering to all State guidelines, and having an alignment that make sense; once approval is
received from MniDOT, they will seek final design and construction funding. He presented the
Preliminary Engineering concepts delineating the path alignment along Ridgway Parkway noting
the preferred alignment for the path along Ridgway Parkway follows the existing sidewalk south
of the Parkway and meets St. Anthony Boulevard on the eastern edge of Ridgway Parkway. He
stated it is a fairly straightforward alignment and the impact to existing trees is minimal. He
indicated they will be working with the City on potential future trail improvements adding that
the future improvements are contingent on funding and continued discussions with St. Anthony,
Gross Golf Course, and the cemetery. He stated the preliminary alignment for the future trail
extends from the west side of St. Anthony Boulevard north of the golf course with the path
continuing on to match up with the existing Diagonal trail. He added that another component is
the overlook improvements at the existing parking lot that will expand the capacity in this area.
Mayor Pro Tern Stille indicated the circular trail that connects to the Diagonal trail will be a nice
amenity to the community. He requested confirmation that the only area being discussed is the
area along St. Anthony Boulevard that is southeast of Highway 88 or the Diagonal trail
connection and there will be no improvements northwest of that area.
Mr. Caddock stated this was correct.
Mayor Pro Tern Stille thanked Mr. Caddock for his presentation.
C.
