PAGE 1 <br />HISTORY OF BURGER. TRANSFER <br />BERGER TRANSFER WAS FOUNDED IN 1910 BY CARL,BERGER. THE BUSINESS <br />AT THAT TIME CONSISTED OF A HORSE AND CART TO MOVE HOUSEHOLD GOODS <br />FROM THE RAILROAD DEPOT TO HOMES OF NEW ARRIVALS IN MINNEAPOLIS <br />AS WELL AS LOCAL MOVING. <br />HAROLD BERGER BEGAN WORKING FOR HIS FATHER AND TOOK OVER THE MANAGE— <br />MENT OF THE COMPANY UPON THE DEATH OF HIS FATHER IN THE EARLY 4C S. <br />HAROLD BEGAN MOVING UNCARTONED NEW FURNITURE FROM FACTORIES TO RETAIL <br />STORES AND FROM RETAIL STORES TO RESIDENCES WITHIN SEVERAL HUNDRED <br />MILES OF THE TWIN CITIES. <br />IN FEBRUARY OF 1949 MR. ROBERT D. DIRCKS PURCHASED 50% OF THE COMPANY <br />AND THE BUSINESS CONTINUED TO GROW. THE COMPANY WAS NOW <br />LOCATED AT 89 SOUTH 10TH STREET IN MINNEAPOLIS. TENTH STREET WAS <br />CHANGED TO A ONE WAY STREET DURING THIS TIME MAKING IT <br />NECESSARY TO BACK DOWN THE STREET THE WRONG WAY TO GET INTO THE DOCK. <br />IT WAS A TWO STORY BUILDING SO PART OF THE WAREHOUSE <br />WAS ON THE SECOND FLOOR SO AN ELEVATOR WAS NECESSARY TO MOVE <br />THINGS UP AND DOWN FOR UNLOADING OR RELOADING. <br />IN 1949 MR FRANK GOODWIN WAS SENT TO CHICAGO, ILLINOIS TO SET UP <br />THE FIRST BRANCH OFFICE OF BERGER. HE BEGAN TO EXPAND THE BUSINESS <br />BY FINDING FRUNITURE SHIPMENTS MOVING BACK INTO THE TWIN CITIES <br />AREA AS WELL AS INTO IOWA AND THE DAKOTAS. <br />IN 1952 MR. DIRCKS PURCHASED THE STOCK OF HAROLD BERGER AND BECAME <br />THE SOLE OWNER OF THE COMPANY. AT THIS TIME THE COMPANY MOVED TO <br />356 LINCOLN STREET N.E., MINNEAPOLIS, <br />A SECOND BRANCH OFFICE WAS OPENED IN SHEBOYGAN, WISCONSIN <br />TO SERVE THE FURNITURE MAbTUFACTURERS OF THAT AREA WITH UNCRATED <br />DELIVERY SERVICE. <br />THE COMPANY PRIMARILY PROVIDED SERVICE TO THE STATES OF ILLINOIS, <br />IOWA, MINNESOTA, NORTH DAKOTA, SOUTH DAKOTA, AND WISCONSIN. <br />
