10 IV. Training
2013 Annual Report · Fire Department · St. Anthony Village, Minnesota
OUT OF DEPARTMENT TRAINING
The Fire Marshal is responsible for the Fire Prevention and Public Education programs. These
programs consist of community fire prevention education, fire prevention education in the
schools, fire prevention education for businesses, and the fire safety poster contest and fire
station tours, among other tasks.
In 2013 it is estimated that a total of 200 adults and 740 children received a public
education message with 118 man hours of Public Education and 195 hours of Public
Relations time documented (nearly all public relations have a public education component).
This is a slight increase to the number of adults (183 adults) and A Decrease In Children
(887 Children) Who Received The Public Education Message In 2012.
Community Outreach
In 2013, the Fire Department continued community
outreach training with CPR in the High School to all
the 9th graders and did classes for many other groups
within the City. This training is provided at no cost
and the instructors volunteer their time. In 2013 the
Fire Department provided CPR training in part through a
$5,000 grant that will continue in 2014. A grant has also
been applied for in the amount of $3,000 to purchase a
LUCAS II Device.
Fire Prevention Week And Open House
Fire Prevention Week allows the Fire Department to have
personal interaction with 3rd grade students at Wilshire
Park Elementary and St. Charles Boroomeo schools. All
3rd graders are given a safety presentation in the North
Suburban Fire Safety House. Along with that training,
the Fire Department also holds an annual Fire Department
Open House. In 2013, nearly 300 people attended and
received safety messages. The Open House provides an
opportunity to answer direct questions as well as gain
valuable experience of interacting directly with citizens.
