Hugo City Council Meeting Minutes for May 5, 2014 <br />Page 6 of 8 <br />Klein made motion, Petryk seconded, to approve the Trail Development Policy as presented. <br />All Ayes. Motion carried. <br />Discussion on Irish Avenue Park Planning <br />At the goal setting session on February 18, 2014, the City Council gave their support for the <br />Parks Commission to put together master plan development guidelines for Irish Avenue Park. <br />The Parks Commission discussed a possible process at their meeting of April 23, 2014 which <br />included inviting residents to participate. A visual preference survey would be conducted to <br />identify a general vision for the park as well as identify its future uses. The Parks Commission <br />recommended that the City Council approve a public meeting to be held in June to receive <br />feedback from Hugo residents on Irish Avenue Park. <br />Petryk made motion, Klein seconded, to schedule a meeting for Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at 7 <br />p.m. to discuss Irish Avenue Park planning with area residents. <br />All Ayes. Motion carried. <br />Discussion on Concession Stand at Hanifl Fields <br />At their March 26, 2014 meeting, the Parks Commission expressed an interest in operating the <br />concession stand at Hanifl Fields. The general plan for the concession stand would be to create <br />a staff position to run the stand and cover costs with merchandise profits. The Hugo Lions Club <br />operated the concession stand in 2011 and 2012 in partnership with the White Bear Lake Soccer <br />Club, but is not interested in continuing the operation. At their meeting of April 23, 2014 the <br />Parks Commission recommended that the City Council approve the operation of the concession <br />stand. Parks Planner Shayla Syverson presented the plan to the Council <br />The Council discussed parent participation in running the concession stand as well as other <br />community organizations that may be interested. They also talked about the lack of interest from <br />the Lions and soccer clubs. Haas stated that the City typically does not subsidize things that <br />can't stand on their own. The Council agreed that it would not be profitable, and there was no <br />action taken. <br />Update on April 26, 2014 Kidz In Biz Festival <br />Over 450 kids attended the 9th annual Kidz `N Biz Fest held on Saturday, April 26 at Oneka <br />Elementary. The Hugo Business Association coordinates the event as a way for local businesses <br />to connect with families. This year, 36 businesses participated, which is an increase from the <br />two previous years. The Hugo Good Neighbors Food Shelf collected food and cash donations. <br />Johnson and Turner supported Kiz `N Biz by sponsoring the game prizes. WSB sponsored the <br />"Family Fun Stage." <br />Weidt thanked all the sponsors of the event. <br />
