Hugo City Council Meeting Minutes for January 7, 2013 <br />Page 7 of 12 <br />Approve Appointment of Emergency Management Director <br />Each year, Council appoints a member of the City staff to serve in the role of Emergency <br />Management Director. For the past decade, the Fire Chief has served in this position. <br />Staff recommended the appointment of the Fire Chief Kevin Colvard as the City's Emergency <br />Management Director for 2013. <br />This item was removed from the Consent Agenda by Council Member Tony Bronk. Bronk stated <br />the reason for removal was to allow him to abstain from voting to avoid the appearance of a <br />conflict of interest. Council Member Bronk is a member of the Hugo Fire Department. <br />Petryk made motion, Klein seconded, to approve the appointment of Fire Chief Kevin Colvard as <br />the City's Emergency Management Director for 2013. <br />Ayes: Klein, Petryk, Weidt <br />Abstain: Bronk <br />Motion carried. <br />Approve Resignation of Marty Schwartz as Fire Marshal and Appointment of Jim <br />Fordham as New Fire Marshal <br />After serving several years as Hugo's Fire Marshal, Firefighter Marry Schwartz has requested to <br />resign the position as Fire Marshal and remain as the Assistant Chief. Fire Chief Kevin Colvard <br />is requesting Council accept this resignation and appoint Firefighter Jim Fordham as the new <br />Fire Marshal for the City of Hugo. <br />This item was removed from the Consent Agenda by Council Member Tony Bronk. Council Member Bronk is a member of the Hugo Fire Department. <br />Petryk made motion, Klein seconded, to approve the resignation of Marty Schwartz as Fire <br />Marshal and appoint Firefighter Jim Fordham as the new Fire Marshal for the City of Hugo. <br />Ayes: Klein, Petryk, Weidt <br />Abstain: Bronk <br />Motion carried. <br />Approve Six-month Review for Fire Chief Kevin Colvard <br />At its May 7, 2012 meeting, the Council approved the appointment of Kevin Colvard as the new <br />Hugo Fire Chief after the retirement of Fire Chief Jim Compton. Staff recommended Council <br />approve successful completion of the six-month review period for Fire Chief Kevin Colvard. <br />This item was removed from the Consent Agenda by Council Member Tony Bronk. Bronk stated <br />the reason for removal was to allow him to abstain from voting to avoid the appearance of a <br />conflict of interest. Council Member Bronk is a member of the Hugo Fire Department. <br />
