Hugo City Council Meeting Minutes for April 15, 2013 <br />Page 3 of 8 <br />Presentation on Communitv Sunborted Agriculture (Immigrant Farmin <br />A presentation was made on community supported agriculture in Hugo by Becky Balk, <br />Department of Agricultural; Susan Stokes, Farmers' Legal Action Group; and Pakou Hang, <br />Hmong America Farmers Association. They are reaching out to the City regarding the <br />Minnesota's immigrant and minority farmers who are in need of land to lease or purchase, <br />preferably long term. The group explained there is an increase in demand for farmland within a <br />reasonable commuting distance from the Twin Cities, there Hmong farmers generally live and <br />market what they grow. They talked about the land in and around the City of Hugo being <br />desirable, and how renting the farmland can provide benefits to the landowner and renting <br />farmer, as well as benefiting the land through their farming methods. They are asking the City <br />for assistance in finding interested property owners who would provide land for farming. <br />Haas made motion, Bronk seconded, to direct staff to act as a convener for a workshop to help <br />connect farmers with landowners who may be interested in leasing their land. <br />All Ayes. Motion carried. <br />Approval of the Consent Agenda <br />Bronk made motion, Petryk seconded, to approve the following Consent Agenda items: <br />Approval of Claims <br />Approve Annual Performance Review for Parks Planner Shayla Syverson <br />Approve Special Event Permit for Blue Heron Outdoor Concerts on June 28 & 29, 2013 <br />Approve Renewal of 2 a.m. Liquor License for Blue Heron Grill, Inc. <br />Approve Temporary Liquor License for the Hugo Lions Club for Good Neighbor Days <br />Approve Advertisement for Historical Commission Associate Members <br />Approve Appointment of New Deputy Fire Chief Jim Compton Jr. <br />Approve Pay Request No. 8 from Municipal Builders for Well House No. 6 <br />Approve Award of Bid for the 145th Street Sidewalk Project <br />Ayes: Bronk, Haas, Petryk, Klein, Weidt <br />Nays: None <br />Motion carried. <br />Approval of Claims <br />Adoption of the Consent Agenda approved the Claims Roster as presented. <br />Approve Annual Performance Review for Parks Planner Shavla Severson <br />On May 11, 2009, the City Council approved the hiring of Shayla Syverson as the Economic <br />Development/Parks Intern, and on May 3, 2010, Council approved promoting Shayla as the new <br />Parks Planner. Adoption of the Consent Agenda approved the annual performance review for <br />Parks Planner Shayla Syverson. <br />
