At its January 12, 2012 meeting, Community Development Assistant Dennis Fields
presented the Annual Report to the Planning Commission, and the Planning Commission
unanimously recommended approval of the 2011 Building Report. Community Development
Assistant Dennis Fields presented the report to the Council, highlighting activities of the
Planning Commission, Community Development Department, and Building Department.
Weidt made motion, Petryk seconded, to accept the Annual Building Department Report for
2012.
All Ayes. Motion carried.
Update on 2012 State and County Road Improvements
There are a number of MnDOT and Washington County roadway improvement projects
scheduled to occur within and around the City of Hugo during 2012. City Engineer Jay Kennedy
provided the City Council with an update on the projects which include continuation of the 2011
project to resurface I -35E, a mill/overlay project on TH61 from Highway 96 to Highway 97, and
a CSAH8 mill/overlay project from TH61 to Goodview Avenue. The project on TH61 will also
include the replacement of three culverts which will result in short-term closing of TH61. It is
hoped that the 1-35E project will be completed prior to that; however, traffic congestion is to be
expected. In addition to those projects, the City will begin the Lake Air/Bald Eagle Estates street
reconstruction project, which is currently under design. A neighborhood meeting will be held on
February 8, 2012 to present this design to the residents, and construction is expected to begin in
May. MnDot is also evaluating whether the TH61/CSAH4 should be a roundabout or a signaled
intersection. That project is expected to take place in 2013.
Mayor Miron introduced the subject of the unpaved portion of Goodview Avenue from Hugo
into Grant Township, and said he would support the City's assistance in financing a project. The
Council supported that idea and directed staff to work with White Bear Township, Ramsey
County, and Grant Township to work out an agreement. It is the hope of the Council that this
could be done prior to the TH61 mill/overlay project.
Petryk made motion, Weidt seconded, to schedule February 8, 2012 as a meeting of the Council
to allow their attendance at the Lake Air/Bald Eagle Estates Neighborhood meeting at Hugo City
Hall.
All Ayes. Motion carried.
Update on the Yellow Ribbon Network
