Hugo City Council Meeting Minutes for April 18, 2011 <br />Page 7 of 9 <br />Discussion on Fund Raising Ideas/Assistance for Washington County 4-H <br />At its February 22, 2011 meeting, the Hugo City Council discussed the funding request from the <br />Washington County 4-H Program. Specifically, Council discussed fund raising possibilities and <br />provided direction to City staff to brainstorm and come up with some fund raising ideas and/or <br />fund raising assistance opportunities for the Washington County 4-H Program. City staff <br />presented ideas such as tractor pulls, snowmobile and horse trail rides, craft sales, and requesting <br />donations from local gambling organizations. Council also suggested fund raising events at the <br />Washington County Fair or requesting donations at the fair gates, and suggested they contact the <br />Fair Board. <br />Miron made motion, Klein seconded, to send a letter to Dan Dolan at 4-H to pass on these ideas, <br />and continue collaboration on 4-H fund raising events. <br />All Ayes. Motion carried. <br />Approve Joint City Council and Planning Commission Land Use Training for June 9, 2011 <br />Included in its 2011 City Focus Goals, the Hugo City Council discussed the opportunity for land <br />use training and education provided by the League of Minnesota Cities Insurance Trust. At its <br />February 24, 2011 meeting, the Planning Commission agreed that it would be a good opportunity <br />to conduct training in a joint meeting with the Hugo City Council. The Planning Commission <br />invites the Hugo City Council to attend its regularly scheduled meeting on Thursday, June 9, <br />2011. Jed Burkett from the League of Minnesota Cities will be at the Planning Commission <br />meeting to conduct training on land use. <br />Miron made motion, Haas seconded, to schedule June 9, 2011 as a joint City Council and <br />Planning Commission meeting. <br />All Ayes. Motion carried. <br />One Year Anniversary of the Death of Sergeant Joe Bergeron and Law Enforcement Day <br />May 16, 2011 <br />Council Member Chuck Haas added this item to the agenda to remind Council and the public of <br />the anniversary of the death of Sergeant Joe Bergeron who was killed May 1, 2010 while on <br />duty. Sergeant Bergeron was a resident of Hugo and a member of the Maplewood Police <br />Department. Haas also spoke about Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, which will be <br />celebrated on May 16, 2011 at the Washington County Historical Courthouse. <br />Haas made motion, Miron seconded, to direct staff to draft a proclamation for Sergeant Joe <br />Bergeron proclaiming May 1, 2011 as Joe Bergeron Day in Hugo, fly the staff at half mast on <br />May land 2 in honor of Sergeant Joe Bergeron, and have City of Hugo representation at the May <br />16, 2011 Law Enforcement Appreciation Day at the Washington County Historical Courthouse. <br />All Ayes. Motion carried. <br />
