The Mayor reported that he, Councilmember Tom Weidt, and City staff met
with the Andersons earlier on this day to help address their concerns. The Council thanked the
Fire Department for the great job in controlling the scene and handling the fire. Fire Chief
expressed thanks to Xcel Energy, the Public Works Department, and Wise Guys Pizza who
provided pizzas for the firefighters.
Update on Washington County Library Kiosk
At its January 5, 2009 meeting, Council listened to a presentation by Washington County Library
Director Pat Conley on the installation of a library kiosk at Hugo Hall to be funded by a Library
Services and Technology Act (LSTA) Grant. Staff has been working with Washington County
for the past year on the details of the library kiosk. City Clerk Michele Lindau provided the
Council with an update on the proposed electronic branch library, which consists of a computer
located in the lobby, lockers located on the wall outside the front door of City Hall, and a book
return to be located in the parking lot. The Council can expect to see the Joint Powers
Agreement with Washington County for the electronic branch library on the Council agenda in
February.
Update on Purchase of Hansen Property
City Administrator Mike Ericson added this to the agenda. Community Development Director
Bryan Bear informed the Council the burn had been completed on the Hansen property (former
gravel pit) and the closing occurred on December 23, 2009. As per Council's direction, money
was deducted from the purchase price for the asbestos inspection, and Kenny Hansen has until
June 15, 2010 to remove some remaining rubble. The title company is holding $5,000 to ensure
it gets done. The City officially owns the property and residents can use the land during normal
park hours ( 6 a.m. - 11 p.m.); however, it is asked that they avoid the old homestead site and
stay well within the boundary of the property. The Parks Commission will continue to have
discussions with residents on future park planning for the site.
Appoint Council Representatives to Board of Zoning Adiustments and Appeals in 2010
Annually, Council selects a Councilmember to serve on the Board of Zoning Adjustments and
Appeals.
