City Council Meeting of March 17, 2008 <br />Page 3 of 8 <br />APPROVE RESIGNATION OF PLANNING COMMISSIONER KELLY BAILLY AND <br />AUTHORIZE STAFF TO ADVERTISE FOR VACANCY <br />City staff has received a letter of resignation from Planning Commissioner Kelly Bailly who is <br />resigning from the Planning Commission due to a move out of State by her and her family. As <br />Council is aware Kelly was appointed by the Council more than six years ago and has served the <br />Planning Commission with dedication and commitment. Adoption of the Consent Agenda <br />accepted the resignation from long-time Planning Commissioner Kelly Bailly and publicly thank <br />her for her six years of dedicated service to the citizens of Hugo, and authorized staff to advertise <br />for the vacancy in her term which is set to expire December 31, 2009. <br />APPROVE APPOINTMENT OF DENNIS FIELDS AS NEW COMMUNITY <br />DEVELOPMENT ASSISTANT <br />At its January 7, 2008 meeting, the Hugo City Council authorized staff to advertise for the <br />Community Development Assistant position with the appointment of former Community <br />Development Assistant Michele Lindau as Hugo's new City Clerk. City staff was very pleased <br />to receive a total of eighty applications for the position. City staff conducted twenty-two first <br />round interviews and seven second round interviews and upon reference and background checks <br />was pleased to recommend to the Hugo City Council that Dennis Fields be appointed as the new <br />Community Development Assistant. Adoption of the Consent Agenda approved the hiring of <br />Dennis Fields as the Community Development Assistant subject to the standard pre-employment <br />physical and six-month probationary period. <br />APPROVE SIX-MONTH EXTENSION FOR ADMINISTRATIVE INTERN NATE <br />EHALT <br />Nate Ehalt was hired by the City of Hugo on March 20, 2007. For the past twelve months Nate <br />has provided an excellent level of duties as the City's Administrative Intern. Nate's internship <br />was extended in October 2007 for six months and he is seeking another six-month extension to <br />allow him to complete his graduate studies. Adoption of the Consent Agenda extended the <br />internship of Administrative Intern Nate Ehalt for a time period not to exceed six months. <br />APPROVE PURCHASE OF 2008 CHEVROLET TRUCK FOR PUBLIC WORKS <br />DEPARTMENT AND TRANSFER OF 2006 CHEVROLET TRUCK TO FIRE <br />DEPARTMENT <br />Included in the City's 2008 Budget is $25,000 for the purchase of an emergency response vehicle <br />for the Fire Department that will be used by the Fire Marshal. Following a meeting and review <br />of the City's Equipment C.I.P., Councilmember Granger and staff recommend that the 2006 <br />Public Works Department Chevrolet'/2-ton 4X4 crew cab pickup be transferred to the Fire <br />Department and that the Public Works Department replace this with a similar vehicle. This <br />transfer and purchase of trucks will maximize the efficiency and longevity of the City's fleet. <br />Council Member Granger and staff recommend that the City Council authorize the transfer of the <br />2006 Public Works Department Chevrolet'/2-ton 4X4 crew cab pickup to the Fire Department <br />and add the equipment specified at a total cost of $24,932.66. Furthermore, Council Member <br />Granger and staff recommend that the City Council authorize the purchase of a 2008 Chevrolet <br />1/2 -ton 4X4 crew cab pickup from Polar Chevrolet for the Public Works Department in the <br />amount $29,422.50 with $18,300 being transferred from the Fire Department for acquisition of <br />the 2006 Chevrolet. Councilmember Granger and staff recommend total expenditures of <br />
