Puroose <br />The purpose of the policy is to provide the City of Hugo procedures for <br />maintaining its sanitary sewer system. These procedures are necessary to <br />prevent sewer backups into homes, businesses and the natural environment. <br />Maintenance protects and extends the life of the City's sanitary sewer system. <br />The City will provide such maintenance in a safe and cost effective manner, <br />keeping in mind environment concerns, personnel, budget and safety. <br />Maintenance will be done by private contractors, equipment and City <br />employees. <br />2. Routine Maintenance and insuection <br />A. Sanitary Sewer Lines - <br />1. Scope of City's responsibility — The City sanitary sewer lines <br />will be maintained by the city and private property owners are <br />responsible for maintaining private lines from the City's main <br />lines to any buildings. <br />2. Schedule — Each City sanitary sewer line will be cleaned every <br />three years by the City. <br />3. Problem Area — Defined as an area known to have problems <br />such as grease accumulation, shallow slope, blockage or <br />backups .These areas will be cleaned once per year, unless <br />more frequent cleaning is necessary. A chemical or proofer <br />may be used in sanitary sewer lines to help with grease build <br />UP. <br />4. Equipment — A jetter machine will be used to clean the sewer <br />lines. Depending on location, type of pipe and if a known <br />problem exists will determine what type of cleaning method <br />will be used. <br />5. Television Inspection — A television camera will inspect the <br />sanitary sewer system lines every ten years. All sanitary sewer <br />lines that are on a street maintenance project will be televised / <br />recorded and inspected prior to the project. The City will <br />televise / record and inspect all sanitary sewer lines in new <br />
