City Council meeting of July 2, 2007 Page 3 APPROVE ANNUAL PERFORMANCE REVIEW FOR PUBLIC WORKS LEAD WORKER TOM SMITH Tom Smith was hired by the City as its second full-time public works employee on June 26, 2000. Over the past seven years, Tom has provided excellent leadership to the new members of the public works department, including summer seasonal workers. Tom demonstrates an excellent work ethic, can -do attitude, and a good sense of humor. He is skilled in all aspects of the public works department. Adoption of the Consent Agenda approved the annual performance review for public works lead worker Tom Smith. APPROVE VARIANCE REQUEST FOR CONSTRUCTION OF DECK STAIRS AT 13500 FIONA AVENUE (MARKO) The applicants are requesting a variance from the front yard setback to permit stairs to be constructed on an existing deck. The property is a corner lot resulting in two front and two side yards. The deck is currently 26 feet away from the front property line. The stairs are proposed to be constructed to the deck on the north side of the property, which is considered a front yard, and will be 22 feet from the property line, where 30 feet is required by ordinance. At its June 14, 2007 meeting, the Board of Zoning Appeals held a public hearing for the variance with no one present at the meeting to speak on the issue. The Board recommended approval of the variance by a vote of 2-0. Adoption of the Consent Agenda approved the variance request for Julie and Joseph Marko to construct deck stairs 22 ft from their north property line at 13500 Fiona Avenue. APPROVE CHARITABLE GAMBLING LICENSE AT HUGO AMERICAN LEGION (WBL GIRLS' FAST PITCH ASSOCIATION) The WBL Girls' Fast Pitch Association has applied for a charitable gambling license for approval of pull tab and raffle activities at the Hugo American Legion. City staff reviewed the application and found it to be satisfactorily complete. Adoption of the Consent Agenda approved the charitable gambling license for the WBL Girls' Fast Pitch Association allowing it to conduct pull tab and raffle activities at the Hugo American Legion on April 19, 2008. APPROVE PAY REQUEST #3 FROM C.W. HOULE FOR WORK COMPLETED TO DATE ON 129XH STREET P.I. PROJECT On March 19, 2007, Council awarded the bid for the 1291h Street public improvement project to C.W. Houle. For the past several months, construction workers for C.W. Houle have worked on the project and installed sewer and water mains. C.W. Houle has submitted pay request #3 for work completed to date on the project. Senior Engineering Technician Scott Anderson has reviewed the pay request and found it to be consistent for work completed to date on the project. Adoption of the Consent Agenda approved pay request #3 in the amount of $125,212.47 for work completed to date on the 129`h Street public improvement project.
