City Council meeting of May 15, 2006 <br />Page 7 <br />DISCUSS TRANSITION PLAN FOR BUSINESS AT 14529 FOREST BOULEVARD <br />(INTERSTATE PAVING MANAGEMENT) <br />At its May 1, 2006 meeting, Council listened to an explanation from business owner O.J. Rinehart re- <br />garding his failure to work with City staff to complete a transition plan for his business, Interstate Paving <br />Management, located behind Southern Auto Sales on Forest Boulevard. After discussion, Council di- <br />rected Mr. Rinehart to meet with City staff and come up with a transition plan, and tabled this item to the <br />May 15'h meeting. City staff met with Mr. Rinehart, who has proposed a transition plan to move the <br />business from behind Southern Auto Sales, in a period not to exceed 18 months. Mr. Rinehart reviewed <br />his proposed plan with Council, outlining what has happened, and what will occur during the transition <br />period. Mr. Rinehart also volunteered to grade and gravel the City's property located behind Domino's <br />and Carpenter's. <br />Granger made motion, Haas seconded, to accept the transition plan submitted by O.J. Rinehart for the il- <br />legal business at 14529 Forest Boulevard, as modified by staff. <br />All aye. Motion Carried. <br />DISCUSS FUNDING FOR PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT AT ONEKA ELEMENTARY <br />SCHOOL <br />At its May 10, 2006 meeting, the Hugo Parks and Recreation Commission discussed a request from <br />Hugo/Oneka Elementary PTA for the City's interest in participating in the funding of playground <br />equipment at the new Oneka Elementary School. The total project cost for the playground is $107,000. <br />The school district has paid $50,000 and the PTA raised approximately $20,000 for the playground, with <br />a remaining balance for the playground at $37,000. The Parks Commission voted unanimously to do- <br />nate $37,000 to the Oneka Elementary playground from the Park Fund. PW Director Chris Petree, future <br />Oneka Elementary principal Terry Dahlem, and PTA Vice President Shannon DeVinney were present to <br />discuss the proposed funding request, as well as providing a pictorial of the playground equipment. <br />Granger made motion, Puleo seconded, that the City of Hugo donate $37,000 for the purchase of play- <br />ground equipment for the Oneka Elementary School, with funds coming from the City's park fund. <br />All aye. Motion Carried. <br />WASHINGTON COUNTY WORKFORCE INVESTMENT BOARD MEETING ON JUNE 21, <br />2006 <br />In 2005, the Washington County Workforce Investment Board held an annual summit at the Machine <br />Shed in Lake Elmo and invited city council and economic development authorities in Washington <br />County cities, with members of the Hugo City Council, EDA, the Hugo Business Association, and City <br />staff in attendance. The City has again received an invitation for the 2006 event, which is scheduled for <br />Wednesday, June 21, 2006 at the Prom Center located in Oakdale. Mayor Fran Miron and Council <br />member Becky Petryk indicated their interest in attending the event. <br />
